This is my first ruffled scarf… I made one out of material that I had planned for a skirt, but decided to try this idea instead. I like the first SO much, I made two more as gifts… even though that was the last thing I should have been doing….my REAL todo list is a mile long…but I took a short detour and made this pretty scarf. So now… I’m sharing my ruffled scarf tutorial with you all.
ok, first I cut a piece of fabric 8″ wide and around a yard and a half long. The ruffle is about a inch and a half and DOUBLE the length of the scarf. I gathered the ruffle using a single long stitch down the middle and then pulling the thread. I pinned it down the middle keeping the gathers even and the ruffle untwisted. This took some time.
Sew the ruffle down
I used a rolled hem on the sides… The material was pretty thin so it worked.
Here’s my finished product!
This is what all the action looks like around this photo shoot! haha
Here’s a upclose look.
When I made the next two I sewed up the scarf so it was a tube with a ruffle and I liked it SO much better, so I did the same to my first one.
I think I like this tube version much better, the other was too wide for me..
To do this one, I sewed on the ruffle like before, then put the right sides together and sewed up the long side. I left the ENDS OPEN so it hangs nicely. So simple and I hope will make a nice Christmas gift for a couple of friends.
Anyone have any great tips for taking pictures of yourself in the mirror??? My husband gets home after dark and I don’t always want to have to wait to the weekend to take pictures if I am in them… HELP! :o) Would love to see other ideas for ruffle scarves….
