My Kids love these felt Olympic medals! Who doesn’t want to be a gold medal winner? With these easy DIY medals you can hold competitions year round or celebrate when the Olympics come around every few years. We use them all the time, but I did create this tutorial in honor of the 2014 Sochi games.
Felt Olympic Medals
I love the Olympics…. the excitement, the thrill, the fun!! LOVE…love…LOVE!!! I grew up with out a tv, but every four years we rented a tv to watch the Olympics… and stayed glued for those weeks to the magical box in the living room…{yes you could rent tvs!!} For the last Summer Olympics I made these fun GOLD MEDALS… but this time I’ve kept it simple and easy.
Go through your felt stash and find the colors that best work for Gold, Silver and Bronze. Here is what I found. You will also need about 25″ of ribbon for each medal.
Use a cup to draw a circle. Two for each medal.
Ok, let’s put it together. Put one felt circle down, place both ends of the ribbon on the top, then add the second circle.
Sew around the outside of the circle. I used a fancy zig-zag on my machine. You could also hand sew around the edge.
You can leave them like this, OR add words…. I let each of my kids pick one of the medals… and my five year chose the silver because he thought it was the best… I didn’t have the heart to tell him GOLD was best…{and YES, that was the best smile I could get out of Max…}
Although this smile is a bit better when he’s by himself…
What’s your favorite Olympic Sport? I grew up on Ice Skating, but now skiing and snowboarding are my favs to watch! Make some felt Olympic medals and get ready to cheer on your team.
