I honestly can’t believe I haven’t shared this recipe before! My Olive Garden Breadstick recipe is one of our family favs! Its fairly quick and really simple, so its a great addition to many an Italian-style meal.
We like them with pasta… and with soup… The flavor is still amazing, while actually being pretty healthy with the whole wheat flour.
Okay… now for the recipe:
Olive Garden Breadsticks {whole wheat version}
1 1/2c. warm water
1 TBS quick yeast
3 1/2 cups bread flour {2 cups whole wheat, 1 1/2 cups white}
2 TBS butter
2 TBS sugar
1 TBS salt
{one additional stick of butter and 2 TBS garlic salt for brushing}
Dissolve the sugar and yeast in water… site 10 min covered. Add flour and salt. Add 2 TBS melted butter. Knead until smooth.. grease cookie sheet. Roll dough into stick like strips.. Cover, sit 45 min – 1 hr. Bake at 400F or 220 C
Bake 6 min, then brush with the butter/garlic salt mix. Bake another 5-8 min more, then brush again… cool…
These are amazing!! Of course the butter/salt mix brushed on top is what makes these yummy…. I think that’s also what makes them taste like the Olive Garden breadsticks… the salty crunch on the outside…
