Mini-Tree Garland #GiveExtraGum

For Christmas as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias®,  today I’m sharing this easy Mini-Tree Gum Garland to #GiveExtraGum this holiday season. When I was given the opportunity to create a craft project using Extra Gum I was super excited and knew right away I wanted to make some sort of garland for my boys mini-trees. It took a few tries to get something I was happy with, but in the end I got a final product we all love.

 It would take a long time to make one long enough for a room size tree, but on this mini shelf-size tree, I think it looks adorable. It’s just waiting for the boys to add their ornaments next week when we decorate for Christmas. I choose the Spearmint gum because of its pretty minty color. I also picked up a couple packs of peppermint because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use them {we are enjoying chewing it because I didn’t use it}

 My kids ask my to buy gum every time we are in the checkout line at Wal-Mart…..and this time I was happy to pick up a few packs…{for the craft, and to chew!} The Extra Gum was easy to find in the check out isle, and the box packaging keeps it protected in my purse.
 Let’s get to the craft. Before I cut the gum into tree shapes I wanted to add a little sparkle.
I had plenty of help opening the sticks of gum {with lots of promises they could have a stick after breakfast}

 I took some glitter Mod Podge {I will be using this stuff for about a million more Christmas-related projects… its awesome!} and painted both sides of the gum. I let it dry for a bit. While that was drying I took red floral wire and created the chain part of the garland. I made a loop about every 2/3 inches and added one wooden bead in the middle. I twisted the wires together to form a continuous string.

Now, grab a pair of scissors with a decorative cut, and create little triangles. I threaded a bit of beading wire and one small red bead on each tree. Then, use the beading wire to attach the tree to the loop on the red wire. {it may sound tedious, but once I got going it went fast} You can’t make the top of the tree too pointy or the wire will not hold.

You then should have a pretty garland! You can hang it like this, or put it on a tree.
