First let me start by saying I love my mom to peices, she is the reason I can sew and constantly inspires me…. And now that my love for her is out of the way, let’s talk about her 80s/90s homemade clothing! You can see my first post of homemade 80s’ clothes here. My mom made a ton of our clothes when we were young becuase it was hard to find good cotton kids clothes that were affordable.. She recently said that her kids “looking cute” never entered her mind when we were young {you’ll believe that if you scroll through these photos} {haha} But she and my dad raised 4 kids to be responsible member of society so we will give her grace on the cuteness factor. Today I present to you photos from when I was young- all home sewn. I’m the oldest in these photos.. Scroll ALL THE WAY down to see my very FAVORITE outfit!!
80s/90s homemade clothing – where I got my love of sewing!
This post is photo heavy of amazing 80s/90s homemade clothing that my mom made for us when we were growing up… I LOVE to look back on all that she made for us and the crazy styles we wore.
I’ll start with matching outfits… when I look at these photos I can see where I got my love of coordinating clothes for kids {haha} This first one is my FAVORITE! {note I think my face got distorted while the photo was in the scanner… I feel like I have aged with grace, but my face was never squished like this photo shows} Oh the annual Christmas sweatshirt.. mom made the shirts and then we spent hours looking over the iron on decals at Joann Fabrics and then HOURS more putting a puff paint outline on the iron on.. and with these results I would say those hours were well worth it!!!
These matching outfits are adorable..I want the romper I’m wearing in my size..
Happy Easter!
Matching shirts for a visit to CA to see our grandparents… My sister looks like she recently cut her own bangs AND her shirt has lace on it.
Matching swim suits!! I’m sure my brother loves that this photo is now on the internet! {I’m cracking myself up here}
And in this photo my mom made a matching outfit for one of my friends… She now fits right in the family.
Awesome matching purple sweatshirts!!
These rompers are pretty cute. My mom also made her shirt in this photo..
Since my mom is in this last photo here are a few other things she made for herself… She actually made a lot for herself but here are a few fun ones. I love this shorts/ bikini top!
And another cute suit!
Matching mommy and son.. I’m sure I had a matching outfit as well! These next photos make it look like we loved what we were wearing.. the next set of photos will be not so thrilled…
My mom had this shirt pattern for WOVEN fabric and she made lots and lots of shirts with it… like this one.. wow, just wow!
You can’t go wrong with homemade pjs!
And this shirt.. I’m pretty sure I made it for myself and I was sewing by my early teens.. The whole outfit is classy..
My brother seems happy with his squirrell applique shirt. Again the same woven t-shirt pattern.
And the same pattern with matching shorts! At Disney!
And lets finish off this fabulous post of 80s/90s homemade clothes with some photos that show how all kids feel most of the time when mom pulls out the camera and says smile. I think I love this new snowsuit mom made…
and not sure if my brother is sad about wearing purple stripes or isn’t getting the snack he wants..
I wouldn’t look either if I was a boy wearing my sisters hand me down BUTTERFLY jacket!
Am I happy or not with these bugs bunny pjs? Who knows! It’s Christmas though…
And my number 1 favorite outfit…… drumroll please…. the shirt with the CAT pocket!! love it!!

Smart idea! I love sewing, but I don’t really try it if I don’t have a pattern. The few times I have tried its been sort of an epic failure…
