My boys saw the movie Inside Out with grandma this summer. I had heard friends talking about the movie and was really looking forward to seeing it myself when it came out on DVD. When I heard that it was released I was excited to pick up a copy for our family the next time I was at Walmart. Last weekend we watched it for family movie night and it was a great as I had heard. Such a great movie for getting kids talking about emotions! I don’t think my boys had ever talked about the emotion disgust before watching it. I thought I would continue the emotion conversation by making Inside Out finger puppets so we can role play and keep talking. They were super easy and I’ll show you how to make a set for your family too!
You can download the Inside Out Finger Puppets Template here. You just need scraps of felt and I’ve given suggested colors. I had a hard time figuring out Joy. In the end I decided to make her person-colored with blue hair.
Cut out the paper pattern pieces, then use those to cut each figure from felt.
You can make them as detailed or simple as you like. You could just make colored finger shapes {like fear}, or incorporate a few of the character details like I did on the template.
The squiggly thing on fear’s head I just cut from one layer of felt, not both.
Use a sewing machine, or hand sew around the edges of each puppet.
Add a few details with a markers as desired.
There you go! A super cute set of Inside Out Finger Puppets that you can use to discuss emotions with your kids.
Have even more fun with some of the Tomy Toys products that Walmart sells. These fun Inside Out toys make talking about emotions fun and easy and you re-live moments from the movie. We bought the Musical Bing Bong Figure and had a blast.
You can find both the movie and lots of fun Tomy Toys at Walmart.
