Okay, let’s get to the Large Pick Up Sticks game…Super easy to make and fun to play this game will but a hit with the whole family! Here’s a video with the game in action as well as many other lawn games..
You will need: Wooden Dowels {you can get them at Walmart, or other home improvement stores, or order on Amazon here.} You need between 50 and 60 of them. You can also use these for the giant Kerplunk game shown in the video… so we use the same sticks for both games. Any med. thickness dowel is fine… not too thin, not too thick..
3 or 4 colors of spray paint.. whatever you have on hand.
I just colored the ends of sticks. If you have tons of paint, you can do the full stick.
The colors represent points, so one color will be about 1/2 the sticks. Then 1/4 will be another color. The rest should be 2 of the highest points and the rest the last color… for example 30 pink sticks, 20 blue sticks, 15 green sticks, 2/3 red sticks.
We originally tried this game on the grass, but the grass made it to bouncy and hard to just move a single stick… the point of the whole game is to remove a single stick without moving any others, so we moved to the driveway and this was better. Hold all the sticks…
Then let them fall…
Take turns removing a stick. If you successfully get a stick out without moving any others, you keep the stick and keep going until you can’t remove a stick successfully. Then it goes to the next persons turn.
At the end of the game when all the sticks are picked up, each person counts thier points. We played Pink = 1, Blue = 2, Green = 3, Red = 5.

Is 1/4 inch too thick for the dowels?
