Keep your company comfortable with Christmas pillows.
Christmas Throw Pillows
I can’t decide which I love more.. the adorable holiday Kleenex boxes or my new pillows {haha!} Don’t worry, I’ll tell you about both! I’ve made a lot of DIY Christmas decor for my home over the years and each year I like to add a couple more handmade items. I shared my new mantel art last week, and today I’ve got an easy sewing tutorial to show you how to make these cute Christmas pillows for easy DIY Christmas decorations.
How to make throw pillows-
OK! Let’s make some fun Christmas throw pillows to add color and decor to your holiday home. I started with 8 x 8 ” white squares. You can paint or add vinyl lettering. You will also need 1 yard Christmas fabric {can be a combination of a couple fabrics} and a 18″ pillow form {or desired size.
After you have the middle square as you like it, start sewing the first color on. I use 2″ wide green dot fabric first. Sew one full side, turn sew, turn sew and continue until it’s a square.
Add the second fabric to the first in the same way. I used a 3″ wide tree fabric, then another 2″ green dot. This was then a bit too larger, so I trimmed the edge before adding the back. You can make any width and as many or few rows as you want.
Top-stitch all the seams to reinforce.
My pillow front ended up 18 x 18″. For the back I created an envelope style pillow case. Cut two times 18 X 15″. The shorter side you will hem on both pieces as shown. Then place all threww right sides together, layered as shown. Pin and sew around all 4 edges.
When turned right side out, you will have a way to insert your pillow form and then cover so no pillow shows. I love making this type of simple pillow case as it sews up quickly and looks great. PLUS – it’s easy to change out my pillows for each season…
Is your home ready for the holidays and the messes they bring? With three kids and lots of guests during this time I know we can’t avoid messes, but I can be prepared and provide a warm, cozy home thanks to my new pillows!
