newborn crochet dress {free pattern}

When My Sister in Law had her first daughter 5 years ago, a friend made her the above white dress. Now that she is having TWIN GIRLS I decided that she needed another dress. SO…. I attempted to copy the dress without a pattern. I will be the first to admit, mine is not as cute as the original. The yarn I found is not nearly as nice as the first, but I am hoping a new little baby can still wear it for an adorable picture with her twin sister. I made up the pattern as I went, but I recorded what I did… so if you want to make one… here is what I did.

Supplies:
F crochet hook 
yarn that is the appropriate weight for that hook.
Let’s get started!
Chain 70 stitches (or measure the diameter of the babies chest) The chain should fit around the ribs.
Single crochet 9 row in a circle
10th row: change to double crochet. Increase the stitches in this row by double crochet (2x) in each 10th stitch around the circle. So… double crochet one in each stitch for first nine stitches, then two double crochet in the 10th stitch. 
11th row: Double crochet around, increasing the same as row 10. This will give the skirt some fullness.
12 row-end: Double Crochet in circles until you reach your desired length. I did 10 rows of Double Crochet.
Edging: DO NOT tie off yarn, single crochet at end of final circle to end the rows.

 Now for the ruffle.
Ruffle:Chain 4, single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in next stitch. (repeat around)
Next row: 8 double crochet in the chain 4. single crochet. Chain 5, single crochet in between the two single chains. (repeat the chain 5, crochet 3 times)all in the same space between the two single chains.
Repeat this pattern around. End yarn.

Bikini Top: Lay your skirt down flat so you only see the front side. Mark the middle at the two sides. Single crochet from the middle to the side and count your stitches. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Single crochet every stitch. chain 1, turn.
Row 3: Single crochet to middle and skip a stitch, single crochet to edge. chain 1 turn.
Row 4. Crochet across, chain one turn
Row 5: Single crochet to middle and skip a stitch, single crochet to edge. chain 1 turn.
repeat rows 4 and 5 until you are down to a single stitch. Chain out a long string for the dress tie.

Repeat on the other side.
and… you are finished!!!

Please let me know if you have any feedback to this simple pattern. I only used it once myself.
It would also make a perfect doll dress!
My favorite part is the ruffled bottom.
