Inside: Learn how to sew stretch woven joggers with my free jogger pattern. I used my free jogger pattern to create amazing and comfortable stretch woven pants. Perfect for exercise or a day running errands.
Recently I was thinking about sewing myself some stretch woven joggers. As a test I used my womens jogger pattern for the pants and I’m super pleased with the result. I think these are a great start and am excited to find more fun stretch woven prints and sewing more joggers.
Stretch Woven Joggers –
So in reality, these were really my prototype. I wanted to see if my jogger pattern created for knit fabric would work for the stretch woven. I think there are a couple of things I could do to make them better the next time, but overall if you are looking for a free pattern that works with stretch woven, this one has potential.
A couple of things I would probably do next time. 1. I would size up, these fit fine, but I would prefer a bit looser fit. 2. I think maybe I would stitch down the curve of the pocket to keep it in place. 3. I made my waistband a bit too loose, so I need to take it off and shorten the elastic.
Actually, I don’t need to take the waistband off, I just need to pick out the top stitching and then pull the elastic tighter. I will add top-stitching back on after.
I sewed these up just like the original joggers. I used all stretch woven {source below} except for the ankle cuffs. I wanted these really stretchy and snug, so I used a black athletic knit fabric for the cuffs. You could also use a fabric like this for the waistband if you like.
How to sew stretch woven joggers –
supplies I used:
- Athletic knit fabric for the cuffs
- Womens jogger pattern
- next up – using the scraps from this project to create this same look for my daughter with this kids jogger pattern
- Stretch Woven fabric in black – this site has a monthly pre-order. There are also some colors/prints available for regualr retail. I got an order of stretch woven and some vinyl before Christmas.
- 1.5″ elastic for waistband
I sewed up the pattern just like in the jogger tutorial. This fabric really is so so comfy and I think looks so nice too. My daughter hates jeans, so I’m planning to make her some of these with the black fabric as a faux dress pants look.
Here are a couple more looks at my new stretch woven joggers. If you like the sweatshirt I’m wearing in these photos it’s the womens Raglan sweatshirt.

I’m confused. What is “stretch woven fabric”? I know what stretch fabric is 00 it stretches. I know what woven fabric is — it doesn’t stretch. I have not heard of “stretch woven” before.
