inside: Check out my art inspired kids wear outfits with the new art project from Project Run and Play. I’m delighted to be part of the new pattern and lookbook release. Sew and craft with gorgeous art themed patterns, fabric and files.
When I was asked to join this Project Run and Play Project I was pretty excited. The fabric, patterns and style is right in my sewing style. I took a look at the fabric collection from Raspberry Creek Fabric and took inspiration from the fabric to create these outfits I’m going to share with you today. Make sure to head over to Project Run and Play to see all the other amazing posts on this Art Tour! I’m only number two so lots more fun coming this week and next!!
Art Inspired Kids Wear with Project Run and Play
This is going to be a photo heavy post and I’m so excited to show you how these photos turned out. At the end there are some of the “outtakes” from our shoot. Also, the video in the post here is a behind the scenes look at how our shoot went.
let’s start with a couple of my favorites. We took over 100 photos and I’ll share just handful with you. It’s takes so many to get a few good ones! The one here on the left is my favorite, but it doesn’t show off Rose’s dress very well.
I haven’t done a shoot with more than one kid in awhile and I forgot how “fun” it was… haha! Whew! We survived though and got a few good ones.
I did hack the patterns slightly to achieve the looks I wanted with the fabric, those details are below in the close up photos. The paint splatter embroidery really brought these two outfits together and I really love the design.
This dress is so cute and comfy and Rose is already planning to wear it to school this week. She is wearing a pair of shortie leggings under.
Supplies to create Art themed looks seen here:
- Patterns from PRP
- Four Season Joggers
- Multi-Hue Henley {it’s a shirt and dress!}
- Fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabric
- Paint drips in Cotton and Sweatshirt fleece
- Paint Drip Embroidery File
Details of the kids art clothes
I really do love the pockets on these Four Season Joggers. I also added a 2″ wide strip of the grey fabric on the sides of the joggers once I realized my sweatshirt fleece was amazing, but had no stretch. I didn’t want these to be too tight.
I also placed the fabric the opposite way to get the paint drips down the center of the legs. I used the selvage edge for the white on the side. The back of the legs are the solid blue of the middle of the fabric. My son wanted elastic bands on the bottom, so I made the cuff narrow and threaded 1″ elastic through the casing. I forgot to get a close up of that, but that was a change from the pattern.
The neckline is sewn as the pattern directs and I love the placket method. It’s much better that how I have made my plackets in the past. I also added snaps here.
I had so much fun adding the embroidery to the back of the boys Henley and the front of the girls dress. I used the same colors, but did mix up the order so it coordinated.
This dress is a hack of the Multi-Hue Henley. I used the pattern for the base of this dress, but I didn’t add the henley neckline { I wanted more room for embroidery} and I added a gathered skirt instead of the skater skirt. I wanted to showcase the paint drip fabric and needed a gathered skirt to do this.
I had a fun rib knit in my stash that I used for the neckline and the arms.
Photo shoot outtakes
I could fill an entire blog with bad/funny photos.. Here are just a few for your enjoyment!! {haha}
