I’m not a fan of cleaning… It’s just not my thing. Any tips that make for a clean house made easy are tips that appeal to me. I would prefer to spend just a couple of minutes a day cleaning rather than to have a big cleaning session once a week. Today I’m sharing my daily cleaning routine which allows me to keep a {relatively} clean house in just a few minutes a day. Of course this isn’t a deep clean and every once in awhile I have to buckle down and really clean, but this is good enough for most of the time. A Clean house made easy – tips

Again, these tips are for daily cleaning.. just keeping up with the mess that would build up if I didn’t stay on top of it. Notice how I’m vacuuming in slippers in the photo above? Yep, that’s my daily wear for my daily cleaning tips. I live in slippers in the winter, but I’m getting away from the cleaning…

Keep Supplies Handy –

I think this is my number one tip for actually getting cleaning done. If it’s not easy for me to grab my supplies I’m not going to do it… and the mess will build up quickly. I actually keep several sets of cleaning supplies all around the house, in the kitchen, all the bathrooms and on each level of the house. That way when I see something that needs to be cleaning or wiped I can do it right away, if I walk away I will forget.

Make your own cleaning clothes –

Last summer I made these fun DIY cleaning mitts to use around the house and I LOVE them. They are great for using up fabric scraps and I love the feel of flannel and fleece when I’m cleaning, plus they are so easy to just throw in the wash when I’m finished. Make a bunch of cleaning mitts to keep all over your house with your cleaning supplies.

Do Small Tasks Daily –

I think this is the most important thing that helps to keep my house from falling apart… I just like to spend 10 minutes a day doing several simple tasks. Some examples of things I do daily… wipe down sinks and faucets in the kitchen and bathrooms, do a load of laundry, sweep or vacuum the main living areas and pick up clutter in our main living areas.

Let kids take care of their own spaces –

If you have kids you can spend hours trying to stay on top of the mess they create. Since my boys were little I have had them clean up their own toys, put away their own clothes and help with basics around the house. This has been a huge time-saver for me. I also keep their toys and clothes to a minimum so we don’t have crazy mess and clutter around our home. You do have to let go of the need for perfection when you have your kids so things, but in the end I have less stress in my life and I don’t spend time cleaning up after them. My boys are now old enough to not only pick up after themselves but they are in charge of cleaning the bathroom they use daily. I mix the bleach solution for them and then carefully supervise their cleaning, but my eldest son is so capable of cleaning his own bathroom.
