Making DIY Dish Scrubbies has never been easier! I’ve never been one to use yarn dishclothes as I just didn’t see the point. Cloth seemed to work so much better. That was until I tried the Red Heart Scrubby yarn.. WOW.. so fun! These DIY dish scrubbies are fun to make and SO handy to have around the kitchen.
DIY Dish Scrubbies tutorial
You can find the yarn at your local craft store or even on Amazon – yeah Prime!
These diy dish scrubbies knit/crochet up really quick so I think it would be great to make up a bunch as Christmas gifts. Because of the fibers in the yarn, they really hold in the soap and you get a great lather when you are using it.
The yarn comes with a pattern on the package, but I thought it was too big for my daily dish scrubbing needs. I ended up casting on 10 less than the package suggested. You can play around with size. My mom and I knit these dish scrubbies while driving to my brothers this summer. We took turns driving and knitting. { not both at the same time! ha! } The larger on in the picture below is more of the size that the yarn package suggests. The smaller ones below are what we make lots of.
I used a crochet hook to weave in my ends when I was finished. Take a large needle or small crochet hook and weave it through a few of the stitches, then pull the loose end back through and clip. This should hold in the end securely.
Look at the great lather these dish scrubbies get going… the bubbles just keep coming and I feel like my soap goes a long way. I can use these for almost all my dish washing needs, a few of the really stuck pans need more abrasion, but really these work great for most of my dishes.
Have you tried this scrubby yarn yet? I know it’s not super new… what have you made?

How cool! I’d never heard of that yarn. I’ve been wanting to make scrubbies from plastic fruit nets cut into strips, but I don’t know how much of a lather they would work up. Next time I’m in the States I’ll have to look for this yarn! 🙂 Lisa

I’ve never seen yarn like this, looks fun. I love the idea of you and your mum knitting and driving together.

This is clever! I never even thought of yarn as a dish scrubber. It would certainly save more money and, from what you said, makes more suds than a regular sponge. Thanks so much for sharing this with us on #shinebloghop this week. I’m sure a lot of us will get plenty of use out of this craft. So glad you were able to join us!
