I’m pretty excited for this pretty floral Passport Holder I made for myself…AND these DIY passport holders take about 10 min each so you can makes some for the whole family in just a few minutes.
Here’s what the inside looks like.. Mine also has a card holder in the back so I can keep my frequent flyer card near my passport.
I made two versions.. one with the card holder and some with just clear vinyl back and front.
OK! Let’s jump in to the tutorial…
How to make a passport cover
You will need: Pleather, vinyl or other thicker fabric for the cover. Cut the main fabric to 7.5″ x 5.5″.. if you want the fabric to show on the inside as well {like my flower version} cut TWO of the main size.
You also need clear vinyl. I didn’t cut my vinyl exact size until AFTER I sewed… so here is the approx vinyl size…
Left side below.. Cut 6″ x 4″ – line up the vinyl 3.5″ from the left hand side. The vinyl should hang over left side and top/bottom.
Right side below.. Cut 6″ x 2.5″ – Vinyl should cover 2″ of right side of cover. You should have overhang on all other sides.
Sew around entire perimeter of cover with a simple straight stitch. Keep plastic vinyl in place and don’t let it slide while stitching. {if you want to add the card pocket see video in this post for those details.}
I made up a whole stack in about an hour! The boys just got boring tan pleather ones, but I had fun vinyl for us girls {I don’t think the boys will care. You passport should slide in and out of the holder pretty easily as you often have to remove at the airport for scanning, etc… This is why the clear vinyl doesn’t meet in the middle.
