I’m so excited about this drink cozy sewing tutorial! Cold or hot drink cozies are perfect for on the go drinks. Cozies protect your hand from the heat of hot drinks and for cold drinks they keep the condensation from the bottle contained. No “sweating” bottles in my car or purse! Today I’ve got a cold drink cozy sewing tutorial for you as well as my favorite new fall drink to “treat yourself” to a taste of fall with Dunkin’ Pumpkin Spice {YUM!}
Drink Cozy Sewing Tutorial
You all know I love using fun festive fabric to make useful things for around my house and life. These drink cozies are such a cute addition to my morning on the go routine, they add a bit of fall color to my day! I find myself grabbing a iced coffee for me and a granola bar for my daughter as we dash out the door on school mornings. We often run errands or have other commitments after we take the boys to school so these help us girls keep running on busy mornings.
Have you tried the new Dunkin’ Pumpkin Spice iced coffee? I’m a huge fan of Dunkin’ Iced Coffees from Circle K all year round, but the pumpkin spice is a fun fall treat. We don’t live super close to an actual Dunkin’ so this is a way for me enjoy my favorite coffee AND flavor of the fall season. I love Dunkin’ coffee as it’s made with real milk and sugar plus these bottles are portable and easy for grab-and-go mornings. You can find the yummy fall Pumpkin Dunkin’ Iced Coffee at Circle K by the other iced coffees.
Okay, let’s dive into the sewing tutorial
Make your own drink cozy –
You will need some fusible foam, snaps and fabric scraps. Of course seasonal fabric makes it even more fun. Cut your fabric into 2″ strips. I’ve got a full photo tutorial for you here, but you can also check out the video in this post for more details on making this cozy.
Square up two of the fabric strips and sew. Trim the fabric so you have two squares sewn together.
Open up the two squares and add a third square in the same way. Sew and trim.
Make a strip of these squares. Measure around your bottle that you want to use the cozy on. You will want it to be the diameter of the bottle plus 2″ for overlap and seam allowance. You can also use it for various size bottles if you add more than one set of snaps. Measure the largest bottle. Press this row flat.
Trim up the sides of the squares.
Sew sides of solid fabric on either side of the squares. Trim up the shape as desired.
Sew this quilted front to a backing of the same size. Trim the seam allowance and clip the corners.
Turn right side out and cut a piece of fusible foam the same size as your fabric. The foam should slide inside the fabric, but the fabric should extend past the end of the foam by 1″. Push the foam all the way in, then press with a hot iron to fuse the foam to both sides of the fabric.
Fold over the ends of the fabric to finish. The part of the fabric with no foam will be where you add the snaps. Sew the end of the fabric closed.
Add one or two sets of snaps to fit the bottles you want to use this drink cozy on. With bottles like this you can make your cozy just a straight rectangle of fabric.
Grab your cold drink from the fridge and protect your car and purse from annoying sweating bottles with this fun cozy! I love it and the pop of color it adds to my life each morning. You can see the full tutorial for making the granola bar holder in the video. Its made with the same method.
