I was originally inspire to start this floor pouf project as part of #projectcrochet hosted by Dragonfly Designs, Sugar Bee Crafts and Seven Thirty-Three, but it really morphed more into a sewing project. Sewing and/or crochet… I’ve put together an tutorial for this easy floor pouf.
You will need some scraps of fabric, thick yarn and bean bag beans. {you can use stuffing, but it doesn’t sit as well}
I did the crochet part first, then cut the fabric to match. My crochet pattern was simple. Chain st for desired circumference of poof. make a cirle, chain 3. hdc, ch 1, repeat around. Next round, hdc in the ch1 and ch1 in the hdc, so it alternates… does that make sense? {ha!} {hdc=half double crochet}. Repeat until desired height is reached.
Now, cut a circle of fabric the same size as your crochet piece. You could also switch these two steps! Cut you fabric, then make the crochet circle the same size. This way might actually be easier!
I ended up using a bowl that was pretty much the right size to get a circle.
So now you will need another circle the same size and a strip of fabric the circumference of your circle and as tall as you want your pouf. Mine was about 5 inches.
Start by pinning and sewing your side piece to one circle. I sewed most of the way around, then sewed up the side, and finished the top seam. now its time to sew on the top {or bottom depending on what you did first!} Pin and sew around, leaving a space to stuff it.
Fill with your desired filling {I like bean bag beans} and then hand-stitch up the hole. Now comes the decorative part! Adding our pretty crochet work. I slipped the band around the side, and then did one more row on the top, decreasing every other hdc to really give it a snug fit. Do the same to the bottom so your crochet band sits snug. Decrease row: ch3, *hdc, ch1, hdc, hdc, ch1* repeat **.
It makes a great seat for the little ones or a foot rest for adults. { I only have photos of the little one option, since that is the cuter of the two!}{ha!}
Or gazing out the window… This whole project was pretty quick, even with the crochet. Use a big hook and thick yarn for and easy floor pouf that looks pretty and works great too.

This is really fun and clever. I’m neither a seamstress or a crochet-er but this looks soooo very fun to make! Please stop by and share at our link it or lump it party!
