Inside: If you love free doll clothes sewing patterns, do not miss these cute pajama pants for your baby doll. Pattern fits most dolls 12-18″
My daughter loves playing with her baby dolls and she is just getting into changing their clothes too. I’ve been working on free doll clothes sewing patterns with her in mind so her dolls have more clothing options. These doll pjs are cute, comfy and are made using this free sewing pattern. The bottoms can be made with knit or woven fabric {I used flannel} and the top should be made from knit fabric {it will not fit over the head if no stretch} I tried to use coordinating fabrics with flannel bottoms and knit tops.

I originally set out to make a just a pants pattern so dolls can match little ones using my free family Pj pants pattern, but then after I made the pants the doll was topless, so I decided to make a complete outfit for this free baby doll pajama pattern… I created a simple little raglan shirt, so now you kids can match the entire outfit… use the PJ pants for dolls and kids and the kids ralgan pattern to match these pjs.

The pattern for both parts is quite simple and here is what the pdf pattern looks like. I have included both the pdf and svg version so you can use your electronic cutting machine to cut out the small little pieces if you want. You can also just print out and cut with scissors. You will need to assemble the four pages as shown below. Both files include a 1/4″ seam allowance for all pieces and can be found by scrolling down to the download box. There are two different pants patterns. Use the shorter one for 12-14″ dolls and the larger one for your 18″ dolls. I have tried the smaller ones on both 12 and 14″ dolls and it works great. The waist elastic is the same and all other directions. The shirt will fit all doll sizes.
If you want to print without any words for scanning into the Scan N Cut or just for easier use you can use the layers function in Adobe to turn off everything but the outline. See the highlighted layers button below?
Turn off the layer that says tiling template. This will leave you with just the outlines.
After you print just the single layer you end up with pieces like this. You will need to refer to the main pdf for cutting instructions and details about neckbands and elastic.
Free SVG file doll clothes –
The SVG already has the words removed, it is just the outlines of the pattern. When you import to your software it should look like this. Dont want to bother with the svg? Use the scanning function on the Scan N Cut to scan in the pattern pieces.
Here I am scanning in the pants pattern. You have to cut TWO of the pants. Make sure to reverse the fabric so you have a left and a right pant leg. The shirt has all the pieces need on one sheet, so you can just cut one. Pay attention to stretch direction markings when cutting the fabric.
Here’s what the svg looks like in canvas workspace for Brother. It will also import to any other machine software that uses svgs.
All the shirt pieces cut out in one sheet. I love how the high tack mat allows even knit fabric to cut.

Here are all the pieces you need to prepare. You can also watch the video in this post to see all the steps in action. You will need TWO pants pieces, TWO sleeves, TWO shirt mains, 1 6″ piece of binding for neckline and a 9″ – 1/4″ elastic for the pant waist.
Begin by sewing the pants together and the front and back seam as shown.
Open up the pants and before sewing the inseam, hem both legs with a narrow hem AND turn over the waistband casing to thread the elastic. Make sure it is big enough for the elastic to be threaded through.
Thread the elastic through the casing and overlap the edges and sew the ends of the elastic together.
Ok! Pants done {simple} let’s move onto the shirt. Place of of the main shirt piece right side up. On either side line up a sleeve at the angled line, right sides together. Sew these two angled shoulder seams.
With right sides touching sew the remaining main shirt piece to one of the sleeves. You should now have four panels sewn together.
To keep the sewing simple with these tiny pieces, add the neckband now while it’s all open. Fold the neckband with the wrong sides of the fabric together. Place either end at the ends of the neckline and pin or clip. Stretch in the middle and place another clip. Sew with serger or zig zag to keep the stretch.
The shirt should now look like this.
Hem the sleeves by folding back the ends of the sleeves 1/3″ .
Open up to the wrong side of the doll pj shirt and sew the side seams from the end of the sleeve to the bottom of the shirt. Hem the shirt bottom {or leave it, the knit won’t fray!}
And there you go! Two very cute pj sets for your dolls… again you can make the same shirt for an 18″ doll and use the long pants pattern included in the pdf for 18″ dolls.

Hi! This is my 1st time here and using this doll pj pattern. I just got to the part where I have inserted the neck binding. I am new to making Cabbage Patch clothes, and just had a revelation that these large headed babies must be dressed from the bottom up, as opposed to over their head! I amaze myself sometime!
Anyway, I am loving the process and can’t wait to make something for me… ie the cardigan!
Thank you,
Denise
