Inside: Learn how to embroider napkins and sew cloth napkins. Add embroidery to napkins for beautiful holiday place settings and DIY Thanksgiving napkins.
We don’t use cloth napkins on a daily basis, but I sure love them for a holiday place setting. These embroidered Thanksgiving napkins are so gorgeous and easy to make with an embroidery machine. You could also add hand embroidery if you don’t have a machine. I’m going to show you how to sew cloth napkins to embroider, but you could also start with pre-made napkins. So many choices!
Embroidered Thanksgiving Napkins
I just love the way these embroidered Thanksgiving napkins turned out! I used all designs that were built into my Brother embroidery machine, but you can always buy designs as well. I used four different designs and the same thread colors between them.
You can easily make as many cloth napkins as you need for your event or holiday. If you had a lot to make I would probably start with pre-made napkins, but for this set of four I did make my own napkins.
Supply list for napkin project:
- Organic Linen
- Thanksgiving embroidery files
- Embriodery Thread
- Embroidery Stabilizer
- Cloth napkins {if you don’t want to sew them}
How to sew cloth napkins
Let’s start by sewing the napkins. I used organic natural linen, but you can use any fabric you want that works for you. Fold the raw edge of the napkin over 1/4″ and press. Then fold the edge over one more time and press. You may need to hold in place with pins or clips until sewing.
Sew with coordinating or decorative thread along the folded edge of the napkin.
Here’s a close up of sewing along the folded edge. The corners are a bit thicker with all the layers. Sew all four sides to finish the napkins. And that’s it! Cloth napkins are easy to sew.

So beautiful and sophisticated. I was impressed by the embroidered shapes on the scarf, which resemble the orange flower in merge fruit
