inside: Find the details for the fabric and pattern used to create matching Christmas shirts for mom and daughter. The Surge Sweatshirt pattern is perfect for this project. I love sewing patterns that work for matching outfits.
The new {as of Oct 2025} Surge sweatshirt from Greenstyle is so so cute. It has fun details and a huge size range. I recently bought the pattern and decided to sew up matching Christmas sweatshirts for myself and my daughter we love the results. Today I’ll be sharing my review of the pattern as well as the details for creating these specific versions.

Cute matching sweatshirts for Christmas
The pattern that I used for these sweatshirts is the new Surge Sweatshirt from Greenstyle patterns. I made a size D for myself and for Rose and printed the smallest size, then cut it down even further to fit her. Thankfully its an oversized look and the cut down hack worked fine.
The pattern has pin tucks at the waist {hard to see with the pattern here}, a crop and a longer version, two neckline options and many more smaller details you can adjust. It was a super easy sewing project and both shirts sewed up super quickly.

If this were a fitted top pattern, I would have needed to put more work into the cut down version. Because its a loose fit, my quick cut down worked. I really love the way these fit and they are so so soft.

I will mention that this pattern is meant for more structed fabric, like sweatshirt fleece. I had all this cozy Christmas waffle, so I used that, but it probably would be best with a more structured fabric. If I were to make this again with the waffle, I would try a stabilizer in the neck to give it more structure. I don’t mind the soft, slouchy neck style, but the pattern was intended for it to stand up.
