inside: Use this peplum top tutorial to create a cute fall shirt. I used my free crop top pattern for the base and created a beautiful peplum style top from that free pattern. Details and video here.
I bought this amazing fall fabric from Sincerely Rylee fabric {was a special sale… no more available now} and knew it had to be turned into something lovely for fall. I’ve made a shirt like this before with the peplum bottom a few years ago, so you can check that out here. This peplum top tutorial will be similar but I have a video showing you how I made this version.
Peplum top tutorial-
Here are some finished photos of our peplum shirt. Rose loves the result and I do too. The fabric is amazing the style is great too.
the peplum style top is perfect for wearing with leggings or jeans. Rose has this laid out tomorrow to wear with some jeans. The leggings she is wearing here are my classic leggings with the side pocket hack.
Of course you can adjust the length of the peplum ruffle and also the amount of gathers that are in the skirt as well. You can keep the skirt straight across or add the high-low hem like I did. So many options for making this top exactly the way you want it.

How to sew a peplum top-
Grab the pattern:

The video here will show you how I put my shirt together. It’s a very basic shirt, so I’m sure you could sew it without instructions, but it’s a fun video and you can see the basic steps here. Scroll down to see how I drafted the sleeves to add a long sleeve version to the short sleeve crop top shirt.
Here is a link to the High Low skirt tutorial referenced in the video. This is how I create my high-low hems.
Ok! Let’s take a look at how to add sleeves to this short sleeve shirt. Download the crop top pattern and cut out the size you need. Lay the crop top sleeve on top of some tissue/tracing paper. Extend the top edge of the arm on a straight edge. Mark it to cut on the fold.
The bottom of the sleeve will be an angle to the wrist edge.
Determine the length of the sleeve by measuring a shirt you have and like the length, or measure the child from collar bone to wrist. You can angle the sleeve to be looser or more fitted. I was adding a cuff so I didn’t make the wrist as small as if I were just hemming the sleeve. Looking for another tutorial on making a short sleeve to a long sleeve? Here’s a full tutorial for traditional sleeve.

I love this (want one for me too!) – but I can’t find the link for the video for this new peplum top, though you’ve referred to it in several places – am I going potty?
