Today I’ve got a fun project – portion control bags for snacking. I’m always looking for new great snacks for our family, and packing them for on the go outings is something we do all the time. We’ve recently found these delicious Harvest Snaps and not only do we love them, but they are a snack I can feel good about feeding my family. We made these cute and functional DIY portion control bags to pack our favorite snacks for days out and about. Our reusable snack bags hold a serving of Harvest Snaps and are easy to make and to use.
Portion Control Bags DIY –
Before we get making these fun bags, let’s talk about snacks!! We picked up three tasty flavors of Harvest Snaps at Safeway.. including the NEW flavors Parmesan Roasted Garlic and White Cheddar. You can find them in the produce section of your store and this tasty baked snack is the perfect anytime snack. Harvest Snaps are deliciously crunchy veggie crisps, made from high quality ingredients, and available in nine flavors! They are a source of plant-based protein and fiber in every serving with no artificial colors or flavors.

Make your own reusable snack bag –
When I opened up my bag of snacks I just portioned out the snaps and then I didn’t have to close the big bag. It’s a great way to store them and to be ready for the week. To make these great portion control snack bags you will need:
Snacks {Like Harvest Snaps!}
Zip top baggies
Wide Craft/Duct tape
We are actually just making zip top bags stronger and cuter with this tutorial. I wash and reuse them for a few weeks before I change to new ones so it’s a great way to get more life from a bag. If your bags are big, you will first want to start by making them snack portion sizes. I needed mine to hold about 22 of these Harvest Snaps, so I was aiming for that in my sizing. I folded up the the bottom of the bag and taped it.
Starting just under the zip slide, place a piece of tape. It should over hang at least a 1/2″ on either side. Fold the extra over. I had two pieces of tape and then it was the bottom.
Repeat this on the other side of the bag. For the second side I cut the tape just the same width as the bag with no tabs folded to the other side. For the bottom, you will place the tape so it hangs off the edge. Clip the top of the tape and fold back. Then flip over the bag and fold the tape up and the tabs on the edge over to finish.
Now you can zip and unzip and load with snacks to your hearts content. This portioned snack bag is just the right size for one serving of Harvest Snap yummies and it’s reusable so you can use all week {or month} long! I LOVED the Parmesan Roasted Garlic Harvest Snaps!.
Don’t forget to grab these tasty snacks in the produce section next time you are at Safeway!
I rinse and dry over a cup to use and reuse! What are your favorite snacks and tips for keeping them handy?
