My favorite features of the Sew Magnetic Mat
This magnetic mat makes cutting straight strips of fabric with the ruler simple! The ruler that comes with the cutting system also has magnets built into the ruler! These magnetics naturally grip the mat when used, but you can also add boosters to the ruler for extra grip.
The boosters on the ruler also double as handles. With the ruler gripping to the mat so firmly it may be hard to pick up. The boosters on the ruler make it so much easier to pick up the ruler.
Not only does this system work great for cutting straight lines with the ruler, but I love it for cutting out clothing. It’s easy to cut the curved lines needed for cutting out pattern pieces. The boosters hold the pattern perfectly to the mat so you can cut out each piece. Of course large pieces are too big for this mat, but I’m still dreaming of an even larger magnetic mat {haha}
I’ve also used this mat and booster system to help modify patterns. When I’m cutting patterns apart the boosters hold all the pieces in place and it’s so easy to trace the new pieces.
The short edge of the ruler is beveled {DON’T use that for cutting} Both long edges of the ruler are just right for cutting though. TIP: use the same brand of rulers an entire project. Some rulers are less precise so you don’t want to mix and match. {More on this in the video}
