I love our new Thankful Banner! I’m slowly expanding our holiday decor as I have more room to decorate in our new home. Here’s a peak of our new fireplace and mantle with my Thankful Banner hanging over it. I LOVE having a fireplace, and I LOVE having an embriodery machine!
Thankful Banner – A Thanksgiving Bunting tutorial-
So you know I have a new Brother Embroidery Machine – and I’ve been enjoying playing with it and making fall projects. This latest Thanksgiving bunting project was really fun and easy. I’m going to give you a few tips for embroidering on burlap AND ideas if you don’t have an embroidery machine.
For this project you will need burlap {roll or 1/3 yd}, a fabric for the back 1/3 yd, embroidery thread and Tear-Away Stabilizer. You will also need some twine to sew the banner together.
I cut the burlap into sections and placed it with the stabilizer in my hoop. Even though the burlap is loosly woven, the stabilizer will hold the stitches in place.
I created the word THANKFUL, you can write anything you want. If you dont have a machine that does letters, you could stencil the letter with paint or a sharpie marker..
Carefully tear away the backing. I was very slow and supported the burlap with my hands while I was pulling.
Next, I created two templates. The larger one is 1/2 larger on all sides {except the top}.
Cut out the burlap and fabric with Pinking Shears, The top sides will line up.
Sew each letter to the twine. Keep the top of both layers lined up at the top and sew about 1/2″ from the top of the fabric. I used a narrow zig-zag stitch.
There it is! I love our new Thankful Banner and as I type this there is a fire in the fireplace and my new banner hanging on the mantle.

I love the embroidery. You will be using your new machine for so many things. The banner is wonderful and I see no problem in leaving it up all year as a reminder to be thankful for our blessings.
