Tank Top Pattern – Free Sewing Pattern for boys in size 18m – 10y
So actually I made this tank top pattern a year ago, and I sewed one live on my FB show… I showed how to make a tank from my boys free t-shirt pattern and how to make one by copying a tank you may already own…. So today we will look at making one from the T-shirt pattern. You can DOWNLOAD and PRINT the pattern HERE. You will not need the sleeves from the pattern and I’ll show you how to make it into a tank top. It’s been fun looking at these photos from a year ago and seeing how much the boys have grown! Max is wearing the shirt from the video that I made by copying from another.
And here is the version that you can make from the Free Shirt Pattern. I like how its a wide and boxy boys tank. This tank top pattern has an athletic fit and is great for staying cool when its hot. Here is the front…
And here is the back.
Oh these boys!!! {haha!} You can see the arm opening of the striped one {the one I’m going to show you how to make here} is a nice opening size. It’s not too big, but loose enough for movement.
Okay, so let’s talk about how to make your own tank top for boys. Head over to the T-shirt post and print the pattern, then prepare the front and back pieces. You WILL NOT need the sleeves. You can see all this in action in the YouTube video HERE. Take the tank front and back pieces and trim the shoulders as shown. You want to take off about 1″ from the outer shoulder and then ease the curve back into the patten at the side.
Sew the shoulder seam and side seams as shown in the t-shir tutorial. If you are using a serger {overlocker} finish the raw edge of the arm opening. If just using a regular machine zig-zag the raw edge. Then fold under a 3/8″ hem of this opening and stitch to finish. Use a zig-zag, knit stitch, or double needle.
Finish the neckline and hem as shown for the t-shirt. Now you have a cute summer tank top! I love this photo! Brother love is always on the verge of someone getting hurt {haha}
And one of sister squished in the middle!!
Here are a few other tank patterns you may enjoy!
