Here’s another tutorial to get you all organized for your summer outings! My new awesome summer tote pattern has a few pockets, but I also sewed up this Easy Zipper Pouch to put inside and store my chapstick and pens.. I’ve never made a Zipper Pouch before, but they are SO easy, I can’t wait to make many many more.
ok, let’s jump into the tutorial… Here is the finished product. You will nee a zipper and some fabric scraps…The zipper will be the length of your top, so choose a zip length that you want for the size of the bag. This one was about 8 inches.
Cut your fabric about 2 inches longer than the zipper and as wide as you want your bag. You can count the inch squares on my mat here to see the size. About 10.5 x 4…my zipper is 8 inches. You need to cut two fabric sides.
Center the zipper along one of the long sides and sew right sides together. If you don’t have a zipper foot, just sew as close as you can to the zipper teeth. It may be helpful to open the zipper.
Open up the zipper and sew the other side of the zipper to the other piece of fabric, right sides together.
Close the zipper and sew around the other three sides of the pouch. Keep the right side of the fabric together and the seam allowance by the zipper turned up… just like this photo. If you don’t have a serger, sew the seam, then finish with a zig-zag as it will be exposed inside the bag.
Here’s the close up of the zipper from the wrong side…. wiggle your zipper open and turn the pouch to the right side.
And now you should have this! A very easy zipper pouch to store all your little items… or big ones if you make a bigger pouch.
I think I want to sew up about 20 of these! Use cute fabric or coordinate it with something else you are sewing for extra fun!
