and now… I’m excited to have Ula here with some great activities for kids!

Hi! Ula here from Lulu & Celeste! I’m super excited to be here today! My baby girl turned 2 recently so I came up with a fun outdoor activity to do at her birthday party: an obstacle course for little kids (with a bit of a treasure hunt involved)! All the kids at her party were 6 and under so I chose activities that were doable for all of them. If you have older kids make the actions more difficult to keep it fun and challenging for them.

I set up 5 stations, and labelled them from A to E. I set it up in my backyard, but had it rained it would have worked in my basement as well (for the most part). (The pictures, though, were taken on a two different occasions and unfortunately it was raining on one of the days so those pictures are indoor only and mostly didn’t turn out, wah!)

To start the kids went to station A: Animal Toss. Originally it was going to be a beanbag toss and then each child could take home a set of bean bags, but life happened and I didn’t have time to sew up 5 sets of bean bags so it turned into a stuffed animal toss. At Station A they found instructions telling them they each had to toss 5 stuffed animals into a basket. Once they were successful, they moved on to station B.

Station B: Walk the line. I drew a chalk line along the pathway, each child had to take turns walking forwards and backwards on the line.

Station C: Jumping jacks (or for the birthday girl she did modified hops, she doesn’t have jumping mastered yet). At this spot each child did 10 jumping jacks.

Station D: Crawl. Place a blanket on the grass and have the children crawl across the blanket!

Station E: Sprinkler run. Here the kids needed to run through the sprinkler. Once they got tired of that they were told the clue to find the treasure. I placed some snack bags of Goldfish treats inside a bucket and told them to look in the yard for a white bucket. And then “hid” the bucket in the plain view, ha.

They had fun! My older girl likes me to set it up for her every so often in the backyard and they do the different activities. Sometimes we change up some of the obstacles, like doing bunny hops instead of jumping jacks. My kids seem to get bored easily so this makes things a little fun (and easier) for everyone so I don’t have to be constantly coming up with new games to entertain them with. They also have fun playing the Animal Toss game indoors when it’s raining out.
