Inside: Make tasty and cute homemade hot chocolate ornaments. Plus use the free printable to make it a great gift. Hot cocoa ornaments are beautiful and a tasty treat too.
**Updated 12/22**
I have made these DIY ornaments several times over the years. I also ran a large group womens craft even where we made these. Its easy to make just a few, or a hundred with just a few supplies. It doesn’t cost much to make and these ornaments are a super fun gift to give. This homemade hot chocolate ornament is the gift we will be giving to the boys’ teachers for Christmas. I will be adding a Starbucks giftcard for the final gift. Didn’t they turn out SO cute!?
Homemade Hot Chocolate Ornaments-
These beautiful ornaments are really a cute decoration AND a tasty treat as well. You can use hot cocoa you have, or make up a quick batch of my homemade version. I made this printable to add as a tag to the ornament. It also includes the instructions for making the hot chocolate. All the details for putting this project together are below.
I love the look of the marshmallows in the ornaments, but learn from my mistakes and only use the dehydrated ones. Even the mini regular ones end up getting stuck in the ornament. You can get them in, but they are really hard to get out. {haha!}
What kind of Ornaments should I use?
You will need empty glass/plastic ornaments {can be found in most craft stores or HERE on Amazon. {affiliate link} Some of the photos here are with glass ornaments. And the glass photographs really pretty, however, glass and food aren’t always the best mix and I started to think that maybe plastic would be better. So I made the latest set with plastic fillable ornaments. Here are some links to supplies I have used for this project.

I mixed up a big batch of homemade hot chocolate using simple ingredients.
DIY Hot Cocoa Recipe –
Homemade Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- 2 TBS Cocoa Powder
- 2 TBS white sugar
- 1 TBS Powdered Milk
- optional:
- mini marshmallows
- crushed candy canes
- sprinkles
- can been doubled or tripled as needed!
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients together.
- TBS of mix with 1 cup of hot water will make hot cocoa. Add any of the optional toppings for extra flavor and festive look.
The hardest part of this whole project was getting everything inside the ornament! I realized I don’t have a funnel, so I made a paper cone, it worked okay. I had to cut the mini marshmallows in half to get them to fit in the hole. {see not above about the marshmallows}
Add a gift card to the gift if you wish… or add an ornament or two to a gift you are already giving.
They actually may be too pretty to eat {ha!} What is your favorite “extra” in hot cocoa? I love the candy canes!
This is a gift you can’t go wrong in giving. Either as a gift or added to another item, your friends and family will love these tasty and adorable hot chocolate ornaments. This DIY cocoa ornaments are as fun to eat as they are to make.

Emily this is really a great gift idea. I’ve been contemplating what to give my kids teacher. I know she has children and try to buy her gifts that she and her kids could enjoy and I think this would be perfect. Thanks for the great idea!

Yea! So glad I helped you decide. We’ve already given one of these to a teacher with a gift card and she loved it!

So cute! It would be so fun to have a bunch of these hanging on the tree and for everyone to take them home after social gatherings & Christmas.

If sending to a dorm room, be sure to include somewhere a tablespoon measure, as no dorm room I ever saw knew what one was! Second-hand shops usually have boxes of loose items, and I have 4 extra tbsp measure for cooking as it is, bought from places like that. Amvets is particularly good; Salvation Army tends to only want whole sets (which you don’t need.) Sometimes Goodwill has a box of whatevers, too. I love second hand shops–they’re so useful.
