It’s January! That means I {and most other women} am trying to start the new year on the right foot. That also means I get back on track with healthy eating and exercise. Campbell’s Well Yes!™ Soup from Walmart and my new electronic holder running belt are inspiring me to be better! I find that having new exercise gear works well to help me get out and get moving. Today I’m sharing a super fun {and cute!} running belt sewing DIY so you can also have something fun to inspire you to get healthy to start the new year.
I’ve got a few tips for you today on getting the new year off to a healthy start. First, after indulging over the holidays I really like to simplify my foods in January. This means easy, healthy lunches that I can eat during my busy day. Since I’m home with just Rose, it’s easy for me to get busy with the blog and other things and feed her, then just grab a snack during her nap. When I focus on a good lunch, I really find it makes a difference. With cold days, soup is the perfect mealtime solution and I recently tried Campbell’s Well Yes!™ soup. Made with nutritious ingredients, no artificial colors, flavors or ingredients this is the perfect, quick lunch for me!
This tomato and carrot bisque was so so delicious. I can’t wait to pick up another can and have it again. One can is two servings, so I get two great lunches.
I also mentioned that having new exercise gear helps me get moving again in January. I made myself a super handy running belt to hold my phone and/or ipod while I’m running or walking. I’ve made two sizes for this running belt diy and I’m going to share the tutorial with you below.
I made a smaller size for my ipod mini….
And a larger size that holds my phone.
Okay! Let’s get started on this running belt sewing DIY. You will need: Stretchy athletic fabric, such as lycra, or PUL. a short zipper 5″ or less, strapping or Elastic, Velcro and optional D ring.
Cut your fabric. Phone size 6″x 11″ with the most stretch going the short way. OR for ipod/mp3 player 5″ x 8″ also with the most stretch going the short way.
Lay your zipper on the center of a long edge with right sides together. – Sew
Then match the right sides of the zipper and other edge of fabric and sew.
Now you have a zipper tube.
Secure the two ends by sewing down 1/2″ at ends of zipper, then to end of the fabric. I reinforced my fabric with interfacing as it was stretching and distorting its shape.
For the strap band option you need a D ring, strapping and velcro. {For elastic version scroll down.} Cut a 2″ piece of strap and put it through the D ring.
Place the ring inside one end of the belt. Line up the ends of the strap with the edge of fabric.
Pull and fold the fabric in so it’s the same width as your elastic or strap. You will have to pleat the fabric. Sew
Now cut a piece of strap as long as your waist. Open the zipper and push one end of the strap to the edge of the belt. Pleat and sew across this other end.
Turn right side out. Thread the open end of the strap through the D-ring and back onto itself. Try it on and mark where the strap overlaps. You can trim if needed. Sew velcro at the overlap.
I added my tag here too!
Now you are ready to go! Phone in… zip up… and get going!
It’s also a perfect size that I can add a couple of cards and/or cash.
For an elastic band the only change was that I cut two longer pieces of elastic. { I used a thick Fold-Over-Elastic FOE}. Sew it in both ends of the belt as above, but then just tie it on your waist.
Here are both kinds in action! I’m SOOOO excited about both of these!
Okay, so that’s a bit about how I’m kicking off the new year! How about you? What tips and tricks motivate you to start the year on a healthier note?
You can find Tomato Carrot Bisque and Minestrone with Kale at Walmart {plus loads of other great flavors! Both are full of veggies and come in a can with non-BPA lining, and we LOVED the flavors we tried. Can’t wait to try more! Many Walmart stores will have in store demos 2/16-2/19. Also, there will be a coupon available in Sunday papers 2/12 & 3/12 – this is a great way to give Campbell’s Well Yes!™ soup a try.
