I researched a lot of things to do in Las Vegas with Kids before we left for our spring break tip and most of them were SOOO fun! We also found a few things to do that weren’t on the other lists I had read so today I’m sharing my own things to do in Las Vegas with kids list… and these are free or mostly free. We did a budget spring break road trip last week from CO to Las Vegas. We spent a night near Zion National park and it was amazing, but I’m not really going to share those details in this most since you may not be coming from CO like we were.
Things to do in Las Vegas with Kids – free or mostly free
We stayed at the Westgate, which is about a block off the strip.. the reason we chose that hotel is that a friend of ours lives in Vegas and he was able to get us a deal there. When I checked the website though, the prices there are pretty decent… NOTE… Most/all hotels in Vegas charge a resort fee on checkout, so be sure to ask about that when booking.. our room was $34 a night, but the resort free was another $33 on top of that… So ASK about this before booking…This fee included wifi in the room and use of the gym… but it wasn’t optional {haha}. Things we liked about the Westgate… 1. good location.. near the action, but not on the strip. 2. free parking for our van. 3. A very warm swimming pool.. Weather was only in the 70’s, but we all were able to enjoy swimming in the warm pool. 4. Our room was on the North wing and we could walk from the parking garage to a side elevator and get to our room without ever going through the casino or busy lobby.
The hotel offered a deal where you could get a discount on show tickets and a free 4/3 day/night hotel stay another time for listening to their sales pitch… We didn’t do it as we hadn’t planned in the time, but it might be worth your time if you want to see a show for a great discount and have time to travel again within the next 12 months…
Ok, and now my list of Free things to do in Vegas with kids… or almost free… I’ll start with things in town. We spent 2 half days walking around the vegas strip and found lots of fun things to do… without spending much money.
1. Hersheys World…. A huge 2 story store with all things Hersheys…. See the chocolate statue of liberty and enjoy free samples while smelling all the delicious chocolate.
2. The Coca Cola Store… you can take a free photo with the Coca-Cola Bear.. they will also try to sell you one with the background changed to a scene, but we got this fun photo of {most} of our family.
4. At the end of the strip near the Stratosphere is the World’s Largest Gift Shop!! Who knows if it’s really the largest, but it was pretty bit and a great place to take the kids to pick out a souvenir… I gave them each a $3 budget and there were plenty of choices in that price range.
5. At the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino there is a huge kids game area.. the games are of course over priced with terrible prizes, but every hour there is a 10 min. circus show for free. Each house the acts are different, so we waited and saw two different ones. The actual seating fills up fast, but you can stand around the outside and watch too.
6. Caesars Palace has an hourly free fountain/robot show. It was cheesy.. but the kids loved the real fire and water and the animatronic figurines were fun too. Get there 10 min early for a front row seat.
7. This one wasn’t on any list I saw, but the M and M store has a free 3D move that plays every 20 min. It’s a 10 min show that’s so fun and the kids loved it. The rest of the store was CRAZY expensive, but the show on the 3rd floor was fun.
8. Go walk around the canals at the Venetian are fun to walk around. The kids wanted to ride so bad, but at $36 a person, this was not in our budget. It’s still fun to walk around and over the bridges and see the boats go by.
8. The fountains at the Bellagio fountains are gorgeous at night, but with kids this isn’t always a great idea. The are amazing during the day as well and the shows start at 3 pm and are every 1/2 hour until 8pm then every 15 min at night. Simply breath taking!
10. I guess there used to be a pirate show at Treasure Island, but this is no more.. you can still see two fun ships and fountains that are fun to walk by and take photos.
Those are what we did with our kids on the Vegas strip… in addition here are some things I read about that looked fun if we had more time. 1. A park in the Town Square of downtown looked really fun. 2. The Silverton Hotel has a free aquarium. 3. There is a great looking Children’s Museum.
AND, if you have time to get off the strip, there are some amazing things to do with kids near Vegas!!
- Hoover Dam…. WOW! What a feat of human invention! It’s $10 to park and walk around on the Dam. We didn’t do the tour as I thought it would be a waste with our small kids. It was still fun to walk over to the AZ side of the Dam and then back. You can also drive and park at another lot and walk over the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. It’s crazy to be up so high and also a great view of the Hoover Dam.
2. Red Rocks National Recreation Area…. it’s a beautiful place with rocks the kids can climb all over. Be sure to go to the visitor center and get your junior ranger books too! The kids can get a fun badge for completing activities. There are several hikes in the 1-2 mile range, great for kids. This park is only about a 20 min drive from downtown. Entrance fee is per car, so load up the mini-van.
3. About 50 min from Vegas is the Valley of Fire State Park. Another beautiful place where the kids can climb and play and a few great 1 mile hikes, perfect for kids. There are some great drives and several places to stop within the park.
So that’s my list of Things to do in Las Vegas with Kids – free or mostly free… what would you add?

Now I want to go back to Vegas! Too bad the pirate show isn’t there anymore. I’d also add seeing the Lions at MGM to your list!
