Every December 1st, my family wakes up to wrapped advent/gift calendars {and sometimes new Christmas jammies} on the table at Breakfast. I’ve always loved Christmas Countdown and Advent calendars, both purchased and homemade and today I’m going to give you a ton of inspiration.
Build excitement for Christmas
The past several years I’ve made the advent calendar part of the gift I give my kids. That way I don’t mind spending a bit of money on the calendar AND the kids get to enjoy part of their gift all month long. I usually give a brick building calendar or craft activity of some point. My kids love LEGO advent gift calendars. This year I bought them brick countdown calendars, but some knockoff ones from Amazon – see the list below.

The other list is of so many amazing advent/gift calendars. There are calendars for every person and every age! Last year my husband got me one of the 1000 piece puzzle ones where you add to the puzzle each day in December.

Advent and Countdown calendars to make
Over the years I’ve not only bought many advent calendars, but I’ve also made quite a few. Here is just a bit of inspiration for handmade countdown calendars, but this point is mainly about calendars to buy. When the kids were little I would use a handmade calendar with a couple of purchased ones. Now the only handmade countdown we are using is the tree pdf pattern I released a few years ago. This one is hung in our home every Christmas season.
