Do you love fall baking? It’s always a battle of apple vs pumpkin when fall comes around and I just love both. These layered apple pie bars may be enough to pull you over to the apple side once you try them.
Apple Pie Bars Recipe
APPLE PIE BARS
INGREDIENTS
4 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup sugar
1 egg yolk + 1egg yolk to brush the top
1 cup sour cream
2 sticks margarine
2 lb. apple, shredded
Cinnamon and sugar per your taste
DIRECTIONS
1. Prepare the shredded apple with cinnamon {and sugar if needed} and put on a side for 1/2 hr.
2. In a big bowl stir together flour and margarine.
3. Add all other ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
4. Split the dough in half and roll it out to ½ inch thick rectangular shape, the size of your baking pan.
5. Transfer pastry to a greased baking pan and press onto the bottom.
6. Spread the apple mixture on{ make sure you squeeze out juice}
7. Cover filling with the other half pastry.
8. Brush the top with egg yolk and bake it until golden brown{35-40 min }
9. Drizzle with powdered sugar.
