inside: Check out some fun back to school sewing with pattern from Project Run and Play and fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. Great inspiration for back to school sewing to get ready for school.
*I was provided with patterns and fabric in exchange for this post* You guys! How can it be back to school season already? It was just the first day of summer last week? My kids start in about 20 days and we are trying to make the most of every day until then. However, my head isn’t completely in the sand and I’m trying to check off items on my to do list as I can. One of those things is to sew a few new things for my kids.
You can find all the posts in this back to school series on Project Run and Play.
Back to School Sewing-
I’m not someone who does a ton of back to school shopping because we won’t really be wearing cooler weather clothing for a few more months… {and the kids may grow before then!} So we usually just go back to school in summer clothing, the nicer pieces.
It’s SO fun to have a few new things for the kids though and I was glad to have been pushed to sew these new outfits. I sewed everything in the photos except for the boys t-shirts. I’m excited to show you a bunch of photos and all the pattern and fabric details further down in this post.
Back to school Patterns –
For this post all the patterns here were sewn with patterns from the Project Run and Play Shop. Here are the patterns I used sewing the above outfits. I previously wrote a post on sewing patterns that are friendly for school dress codes and you can check that out here.
For my daughter I used the Josephine Cardigan and the Friday Dress. I love both of these patterns! They have so many options and the cardigan can work for both boys and girls. I sewed a simple version of the cardigan and a version of the dress I love so much.
The skirt pockets and collar style are so cute! There was a traditional collar as well, but I love this one with the cardigan. I did have some issues with the hem rolling. I think it’s the fabric, but I maybe could have pressed it better as well.
I used the full button front option and love the wooden buttons down all the front.
The boys are wearing Joseph Joggers and they are so comfy! It was fun and easy to sew these for the boys and these really were a quick sew. Pockets and elastic waist make these amazing for the kids too.
Fabric for Back to School Sewing –
The outfits seen here are sewn from Raspberry Creek Fabric. I LOVE their apparel fabric and place many orders every year from their site. {like the cousin clothes I sewed this summer}
For this post I used fabric from their back to school fabric line in both French Terry and Double Gauze. This was my first time sewing double gauze for apparel and it’s so lovely. It’s a perfect fabric for our house because I never ever iron my kids clothes {haha} and the double gauze hides any wrinkles.
I’ve sewn so many things with the Raspberry Creek French Terry and it’s one of our favorites for sure. The cardigan and joggers are both from FT. Now, you may have checked out the site and notice there is no blue/grey paint fabric… Well… I love many of the RCF special fabrics, but they are often on white backgrounds… this isn’t super great for my active and messy boys, so I tried dyeing the fabric for the first time. I LOVE the result. I wish it was more grey {but I couldn’t find a great grey color} but these are totally better than white joggers for my boys.

I love these patterns and would wear any of these outfits myself! Wish they came in adult sizes.

What a great idea to dye the fabric, Emily! Those joggers are terrific! I sew for my granddaughters, and I love Raspberry Creek fabrics for their garments 🙂
