Okay, lets talk red packets… Do you know what a red packet is? When Chinese New Year rolls around many stores will give these out as promotions {I bought ours at my church} and then you fill them with small bills {money} and give them out to kids/unmarried adults during the festivities… This is called Lai See money.. {literally the red envelope money} Above are some examples of red packets… the McDonalds one would be an example of a store giving them out as promotion. I have seen some with beer labels too, which is strange since there are given primarily to kids. I was rather shocked that you have a post on this and you can get the red packet..We are really very busy these few weeks preparing for Chinese New Years. Baking cookies is one of them, Spring cleaning.. and preparing the red packet (angpao or you called it laisee) will usually done on the eve. Some well to do families have to prepare hundreds of red packets every year.. We use the red packet for decorations too. It can be hand in the tree, place in the table with fruits.. Hope you have a great valentines day..

Those are beautiful envelopes! The ones I get from the grocery store are pretty garish. So lovely that your church has them, and they have such a sweet message. Love the garland idea! If each of those had a bill in it, that’d be even better, lol!
