inside: A quick Christmas Home Tour displaying many handmade Craft and Sewing projects with tutorials so you can make and sew your way through the holidays.
I LOVE the Christmas season. I have always really enjoyed all that comes with the holidays and now that I have three young {ish} kids, it is so fun to be part of the joy of the season through my kids. We celebrate the birth of our Savior and King and also decorate and bake and gift the whole month of Dec. This post is a visual tour of my home to show off all the fun things I’ve crafted and sewn for Christmas – and you can make them too!
Be sure to check out the links along the way to the tutorials for each item or where to buy it.
Christmas Home Tour
I did a facebook live several years ago that showed our home at Christmas time. I’ve added several handmade items to our home since then and changed out some of the other decor. I’m excited to walk you through our home at Christmastime in this post.
First up, Let’s look at the kitchen… Because it’s NEW… last spring/summer we tore down a wall, moved somethings around, added a huge island and redid the whole thing… including floors and cabinets.
I just love the finished result so much and it decorates beautifully for Christmas.
Isn’t it so cute! I love my huge kitchen island and large double farmhouse sink. Having it open to the rest of the house has been huge as well. I have greens on top of the cabinets and small wreaths hung above the stove.
The floral decor on the top above the fridge is one I change out many times a year for various seasons. I just noticed that the panel on top of the fridge is just sitting there.. one final thing to finish still {haha}
Here are a few close ups! I made these wood letter blocks at a friends craft party in Nov.. they are new this year. This same friends has an Etsy shop so if you are interested in purchasing cute sayings on wood blocks you can find them HERE.
And directly below my PEACE display is my collection of Christmas mugs. I’ve been buying them over the past few years and now have quite a few. {not all seen here} You can find them in many stores this time of year or on Amazon here.
A few years ago my sister made me this wood sign with the Nativity painted on it. I have it by my sink this year and I get to see in many times a day when I am working in the kitchen. We have fresh cut pine branches in the vase as well.
I did these scrappy pot holders years ago as gifts and I have just one left for myself. I bring it out every year and use it for placing hot food items on when we entertain. You can find the full sewing tutorial here.
Another new item in our home… With my new large kitchen island comes a new fun place to decorate. I’ve been having some sort of season display in the middle of the island since we finished the kitchen. Even just a plant in summer. I love my tree and candle display this Christmas.
You can see the close up of the candles in the very first photo in this post. The tree and tray came from IKEA and the some of the candles as well. The rest are just some fun small trees and other candles.
ok! now onto some pretty wreaths!
Tucked into this corner in our family room I have a pretty fabric/yard wreath AND the Christmas countdown I made last year. Actually, both of these projects were from last year. You can find the Christmas Wreath HERE and the Christmas Countdown HERE.
Here’s another gorgeous Christmas wreath I just made a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t make a tutorial. I just took bunches of berry floral and and yarn wrapped wreath… then I glued the berries around and around and around. It was a fun, pretty quick make inspired a trip to Joann Fabric on Cyber Monday when everything was on sale.
You can see my new berry wreath in the background of our table here. The greens and lights are just zip-tied the the banister {which I stained a couple of years ago} The lights on the stairs don’t have any plugs near by, so we use these battery lights.. The batteries last forever!! Here are the lights I have.
The table runner isn’t on my site, but I did write a tutorial for the Brother Sew Blog and you can find the tutorial here.
By our front door, we have a small cabinet. It stores some of my supplies and all of my kids craft supplies. On top I try to keep a seasonal decoration of some kind. Here we have candles, trees, and an advent wreath my in-laws gave us our first married Christmas… {17 years ago? what??} The tree is new as it was a gift from my brother and his wife LAST Christmas… We love it! They scavenged barn wood and some are the original barn color and some they stained.
Next to the table is the start of my work space and above it I hung the felt circle garland I made a few years ago. Such a fun and easy project. Make it here. This is on the opposite side of the room as our kitchen so the whole area is really festive right now.
A half level down from the kitchen/dining/sewing office is our family room. This room was SO blah when we first moved in.. {see original house photos here} We installed IKEA cube shelving {put in a new fireplace} and I framed in the shelves so they look like built ins! We also have cozy furniture and a big run, so we love this room.
Normally the built ins have photos and books in them. At Christmas time I clear out the spaces and fill them with nativities collected from around the world and festive frames filled with photos from Christmases past!
Hanging above our fire place in the new Christmas Stockings I just finished in Nov. You can find the free pattern and tutorial here. The candles are battery {buy here} and the berry vines were from Target a couple of years ago.
Opposite the fireplace is our tree. You can see the boys LEGO advent calendars under the tree. They have been a huge hit and the first thing they do each morning. My daughter has a fun jewelry one as well. The tree skirt is NEW and you can find the quilted tree skirt tutorial here.
Also in our family room are lots of throw pillows. Here are pillows from a couple of different tutorials over the years.
Upstairs I haven’t really decorated in the bedrooms. The kids have trees {see below} and I hung this wall hanging that my mom made us on our door. You can find fun quilted Christmas tree patterns here to make your own wall hanging. And another ones here.
And finally, here are the trees each child has in their room. They decorated themselves without any help {can you tell? haha?} We keep the ornaments that they are given from family and friends separate from the family ones.
