Inside: Find out how easy it is to make your own DIY makeup remover wipes. Simple sewing tutorial that anyone can make, sew up a bunch of these simple cloth wipes this weekend.
I’ve been trying to go reusable when/where I can. Somethings are easy for me, I use reusable plastic baggies for snacks and storage and sandwiches, and I have my beeswax wrap instead of plastic wrap. Yes, I still have paper towels, but we mostly use cloth towels. In the bathroom I LOVE my makeup wipes. Pull one from the pack, clean and throw away. This year I’m trying to replace those handy wipes with these DIY makeup remover wipes, we will see how it goes. They were super easy to sew!
DIY round cotton wipes
This is the easiest sewing project I have made this year {so far} and I’m hoping they are super easy to use as well. I’m several days into my experiment and it’s going well so far. I will list these cute jars in the supply list below, but getting cute containers are a must for this project!
I’ve been using these just like I did the disposable cotton rounds. I get the flannel pad just a bit wet, then I also add some makeup remover and wipe my eyes and cheeks with the pad. One or two is enough to clean my face. I don’t wear foundation, only eye makeup and a bit of blush, so it’s easy for me to get the makeup off.
What is a DIY makeup remover wipe?
These reusable makeup remover pads and made from flannel (or cotton) and are used to replaced single use makeup remove wipes or cotton pads. I’ve been using both for several years and am trying to replace them with these cute reusable flannel pads
They are soft against your skin, washable and easy to use. I will collect the dirty ones in a container until I have several, then wash in a delicates bag.
Other easy DIY reusable projects
- reusable shopping bags {I use these every time we go to the store
- Fabric snack bags {my kids get crackers/pretzels in these weekly}
- reusable food wrap {these don’t last forever, but I make new ones about once a year}
How to sew reusable makeup remover pads
Supplies for making your own reusable cotton pads:
- Flannel or cotton scraps {you can use organic if you like. I just washed the fabric first}
- Pinking shears to trim fabric
- Cute jars {These are cute, but plastic so they won’t break in my bathroom}
- These jars are the ones on my order list, but they don’t have the lids I got.
- This is more like what actually have. jars with bamboo lid
- Makeup remover {here’s what I like}
So… for this project you need a whole bunch of round fabric pieces. I used my ScanNCut to easily cut a whole bunch of circles. Here is how to cut fabric with your ScanNCut option 1 and option 2.
I cut rounds that are 2.7″ for the outer, you need two for each round pad. And circles that are 2″, you need two for the inside of each pad.
My suggestions is that if you don’t have a cutting machine to cut the circles to just cut squares, and then sew a circle in the square {easy to turn} and then cut the circles with your pinking shears to finish.
Okay! Let’s get started with how I made mine. Four layers of flannel. Two of the small rounds {2″each} Inside two larger rounds {2.7″ each}. I assembled about 25 and put a pin in the center of each to hold. Sew with a zig zag around, leaving a 3/8″ seam allowance.
After sewing around the circle, repeat with all your makeup wipe pads.
Trim with your pinking shears to prevent the fabric from fraying. My rounds fit perfectly inside the jars I purchased.
Fill the jars and use as you want. These are working well so far for me. Can’t wait to see what this inspires you to make.
