This easy headbands diy is a great stash-buster and so helpful in the hot weather! I didn’t always have curly hair. As a kid it was just wavy and even in High School I could brush my hair like a “normal person” {ha!} In collage I permed my hair and my hormones must have changed at the same time because my hair has been curly ever since! Today I’m celebrating curly hair by sharing 3 easy headbands DIY that are perfect for curly hair. {or any hair!}
Easy Headbands DIY-
Okay, let’s make some headbands!
The first headband is very simple. Grab some wide elastic, measure your head, then cut and sew the two ends together… that’s it! These elastic headbands are great for sporty days.
Option 2 is also pretty simple, just a couple more steps. This kind works best with a woven fabric {not stretchy!} I cut mine 5 inches x 25 inches.
Finish the two short ends by folding under and sewing or zig-zagging. Then fold in half with the right sides of the fabric together and sew the long side. Turn right side out and tie it on your head!
The 3rd version actually has a couple of options. This one works best with knit fabric {stretchy} Measure around your head. Cut the fabric that length and 4 inches wide. Fold right sides together along the long side. I wanted the back part to be a bit thinner, so I trimmed off a bit from the open side as shown below.
Sew the long side.
Turn so the right side is out and then sew the narrow ends together. I would measure around your head one last time to see who tight to make it. You can finish like this and be done.
OR.. if you want a tighter fit you will need to add some elastic. Trim 3 inches off each end of your headband, then cut 6″ elastic. Place one end of elastic inside the fabric and fold the fabric over, sew. Measure on your head for tightness and sew the other side.
Here they are! Mix it up with different fabrics and sew up a bunch! Grab your Dove Emoji keyboard too, so you can be your curly haired self in real life and on social media.
