Fall Sewing Tutorial
Measure around the mug you want to sew the cozy for. You will want about a 1″ gap between the ends to leave room for the handle. Add 3/8″ seam allowance to each end for sewing. Measure the height as well.
For each cozy you will sew, cut two pieces of fabric. Cut fusible fleece a 1/2″ smaller on all sides then the fabric.
Fuse the fleece to the back side of one piece of fabric.
Take a 3″ piece of 1/4″ inch elastic and sew both ends to the middle of the short end of the fabric. Want cute colored elastic? I used a sharpie to color my white elastic and make it more fall – like {I love it!}
Place the right sides of the fabric together and pin or clip all the edges. Sew with a 3/8″ seam allowance and sew three sides {leave the short side without the elastic open for turning}
Clip the corners and then turn right side out.
On the open short end fold the seam allowance in and pin or clip then sew shut.
Top stitch around the edge and then any stitching in the middle that you want to make.
Wrap the cozy around the mug and mark where to sew the button. Stitch on the button.
Wrap the mug and then slip the elastic through the handle and over the button to secure. Enjoy your new gorgeous fall mugs wrapped in beautiful fall fabrics.
