Growing up my mom would often make this French Vinaigrette Recipe, I’ve loved it since I was young. It was her mom’s recipe {my grandmother} so if there is another source for the recipe, I apologize {ha!}, I’ve always known this as my Grandma’s French Vinaigrette recipe.
This French Vinaigrette is super easy to make and has a great tangy flavor. You can adjust the sweetness and vinegar to taste, so there are actually a few versions of these dressing. I’ll be giving you the measurements for the original recipe, but I often change it up a bit.
The recipe calls for four equal parts of ketchup, oil, vinegar, and white sugar. {You can also use honey, or less sugar}
French Vinaigrette Recipe {My Grandma’s Recipe}
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Olive Oil
- 1/3 cup White Vinegar
- 1/3 cup Sugar {or a bit less}
- 1/3 cup Ketchup
- you can adjust the amount, just keep them all equal for a larger or smaller batch.
Instructions
- Mix all in a dress bottle, shake well. Store in the refrigerator, and shake before using each time.
After you shake it up, it stays mixed for awhile. Shake each time before using.
Pour on top of your favorite lettuce salad. {try my SUPER SALAD recipe here}
This dressing has some of the flavors of a french dressing with the lightness of a vinaigrette which is my favorite combination! I love dressings that are light, but full of flavor.
There you go! Thanks grandma for the recipes. The future generations are loving your salad dressing!
I love salads.. here are a few other great ones I’ve shared recently…

I forgot how much I love French dressing! Just a question, if I can’t get basic white vinegar (haven’t come across it yet in Spain), do you think white wine vinegar might be the best substitute? (white wine, red wine, ACV, balsamic are my standard options.) Looks fantastic, and so easy!! Grandmas know best!
