I’ve always wanted one of these hair towel wrap thingys! My normal towel is always slipping off when I’m trying to get ready while waiting for my hair to dry a bit. My hair is so thick I have to let it dry for awhile before I blow dry. I’ve got a full tutorial to make your own hair towel wrap AND my first hair dying experience. {in a really long time}

This hair towel wrap has been so handy for keeping my hair in place after washing. Since this post was originally created, I have made several of these and used them over the years. I good tip is to make sure that the velcro is attached to itself before washing the towel, so it doesn’t get caught on everything in the wash.
Hair Towel Wrap Tutorial –
You will need:
1 Yard of Terry Cloth {or a large towel you can cut} You will also need 8″ of velcro.
Layout your cloth/towel and cut to match these dimensions. Finish any raw edges with a serger or zig-zag stitch to prevent fraying. If you are using thick terry or a pre-made towel I would lengthen the 36″ below to 48″. Thicker cloth needs a longer distance for twisting.
On the 12″ point end of the two, make a large pleat until it’s 4 ” wide. Cut your velcro into 4″ pieces. Place on side of the velcro on the pleat. Sew in place.
Place the other side of the velcro in the center of the opposite long side of the towel – like this. Sew.
Place the long edge of the towel on the back of your head with the velcro in the center. Twist the rest until tight and then flip over your head and attach the velcro together. You can reference the action photos at the top of this post as well. I love this hair wrap towel as it really keeps my hair up and out of my way while I do my make up and other post-shower routine. I’ve used it several times now and it does not slip or slide while I’m getting ready.

This hair towel wrap tutorial is a game-changer! I can totally relate to the regular towel slipping off. I once tried to dry my hair with a regular towel and ended up chasing it around the bathroom. Can’t wait to make my own. Quick question: What if I don’t have a serger? Is there an alternative way to finish the edges?
