Five years ago I was pregnant with my second son, very sick {from the pregnancy} and I started a blog. FIVE years later I cannot even believe how far this blog has come. Today I’m saying thank you to my readers with a great giveaway and some very sweet birthday treats! I’ve teamed up with several other birthday bloggers for the giveaway and am sharing my healthy fruit pizza recipe as a great treat for kids {and big kids!}
I’ve made this on a slightly sweetened bread crust with yogurt and fresh berries. The sugar content can be nearly 0 {just a bit in the bread}, or you can add just a touch like I did for a delicious and healthy fruit pizza.
I used my favorite bread recipe as the base. This replaces the normal pastry or sugar cookie crust with a less sweet bread. Before baking I sprinkled just a bit of cinnamon and sugar mix on top to give it flavor. After baking, and cooling I spread plain yogurt {sweetened with honey} on top, then added berries. You can use vanilla or a fruit flavored yogurt too if you wish.
Healthy Fruit Pizza
Ingredients
- for the bread: {makes one 10" pizza}
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 TBS dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/2 TBS salt
- 1 TBS Brown Sugar
- 1 TBS oil
- 2-3 cups bread flour
- TIPS: Use fresh yeast and bread flour for best results
- 1 tsp white sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon mixed
- fresh berries
- plain, vanilla or fruit yogurt
Instructions
- bread:
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. I heat it in the microwave. it should be warm but not hot, or the yeast will die.
- Add the warm milk, salt, sugar and oil.
- Start adding flour one cup at a time until a dough forms. Stir in the bowl until too hard to stir. Pour onto a floured surface and keep adding flour, knead until not sticky.
- let sit in a oiled bowl for 20 min. cover with a damp towel.
- Knead for 2 more minutes roll into a flat round shape
- Heat oven to 350 and bake 15-20 minutes or until slightly brown on top.
- cool, top generously with yogurt and berries.
You can also make mini pizzas by baking small round dough in a muffin tin.
After the giveaway there are several other healthy recipes to check out as well.

I used to love chocolate cake with strawberry icing until just recently my mom confessed she hated it, she only made it because I requested it! So a few years ago she made a vanilla cake with vanilla icing and strawberry jam filling. Holy smokes it is so good I don’t miss my chocolate cake!

On my birthday I love Red Velvet Cake, but not just any red velvet. I like the kind that’s more of a spice cake and that doesn’t use cocoa powder. My mother used to make this cake for all my birthdays when I was younger. Even the icing was fantastic – it’s made with heated milk that’s been allowed to cool and isn’t too sugary.

My kids love fruit pizza. I mix some cream cheese together with the yogurt to keep it from being so runny. I’m going to have to give your crust a try. It’s definitely a better alternative than the sugar cookie crust we’ve been using! Thanks for linking up your recipe at This Is How We Roll Thursday.
