One of my favorite things about being able to sew is using adult clothes and turning them into kids clothes. I’ve got a fun refashion for you today with a funky women’s short turned adorable girls’ dress. I would have step by step photos but at the moment I’ve lost all my photos from 2014… I’m trying to stay calm… and progress is being made.. but I don’t have the tutorial for this dress. I do have the dress photos for this I Heart Marcel Marlier series though, so I will be thankful for that!
The I heart Marcel Marlier Series is hosted by Sewpony and Straight-Grain… two lovely ladies and AMAZING sewers of all things! Hop over to their blogs to check out all these great outfits from the series.
I used my favorite little girl model and my son’s best friend. She is adorable always willing to model clothes for me.. I pay her in clothes {ha!} so it works for us both!
I was not familiar with Marcel Marlier before this series. After looking through his illustrations, I was so excited to sew an outfit inspired by his work! Here were the two illustrations that I used as my main inspiration. You can read more about the series and Marcel Marlier here.
I was given a women’s shirt.. that I didn’t think I would ever wear… BUT.. it was made from gorgeous fabric in fun, bright colors, so I retained the original neckline and used a girls tank to re-cut the arm holes and width. I’m in love with the way ti came out…
I used some leftover fabric to make a little sash at the waist…
And the one photo that I have from the tutorial shows how I just added bias tape to finish the new arm holes. I used all fabric scraps from the original shirt.
Thanks to An and Suz for inviting me to be part of this series and for the gorgeous illustrations of Marcel Marlier that inspired this series and this look. Another chance to share my love of refashioning one thing to another and giving new life to a piece of clothing.
And just for fun… here is a great giveaway!!!
