Use an IKEA table to make a kids chalkboard table for hours of simple chalk fun.
Today I’m sharing part 2 of my IKEA kids table makeover, with this kids chalkboard table… A little DIY project for kids…I’m so pleased with the results and my kids (and their friends) are LOVING the finished product. I originally planned to make this a white board table, but when plan A failed…. a chalkboard table was born. Such an easy DIY project. The color combination is great and since it was my first chalkboard paint experience, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was.
TA-DA!!!
I didn’t really take pictures of the process, but if I were to write a tutorial it would go something like this.
Step 1: Paint table green according to the paint directions. Keep green paint off the table top..
Step 2: Paint the table top with the chalkboard paint according to the directions. You can find Chalkboard Paint HERE
Ha! So simple, right???
So before… the table looked like this – It was a super cheap table/chairs set from IKEA.
Unfinished wood… with lots of use… looks really dirty! The top of the table was also a mess, we had taped photos and games to the top and I let the kids eat snacks there as well. It was in need of a good coat of paint, but I also wanted to add an interactive feature as well. (I have more plans for this table as well!)
So I did the drawings for the photos…. and my son was patiently waiting while I took the photos. We erased the table and I let my son have a go!

That is really cute, and I’m glad your experience with the chalkboard paint went so well! We have pieces of an old, recalled crib sitting in our garage and I’ve been thinking about turning an end piece into a chalkboard for the kids, but since I’ve never used the paint before… I won’t let it scare me off though!
