I’ve got a cute kids oven mitt free pattern and tutorial for you today – this post is sponsored by Hobby Lobby, but all work and opinions are my own.
Plus, a look at some of the gorgeous spring apparel fabrics available at Hobby Lobby this season. All the fabric in this post was purchased at Hobby Lobby and I can’t wait to go back and get more as it’s just so fun! My daughter and I are loving our new aprons and the oven mitt has been a huge hit as well.
Kids oven mitt free pattern and tutorial –
Rose got this play kitchen for her last birthday and really enjoy playing with it. Her new apron and oven mitt have inspired even more hours of creative play, plus she loves that she has an apron “just like mom”.
Aren’t we cute together? I chose a fun bold print for Rose’s apron and a more subtle print for mine. And while they don’t exactly go together, they are both super perfect for Spring {which is coming, right???}
I went to my local Hobby Lobby and picked up these three fun fabrics, two ric rac rolls and the McCalls pattern 7448. I chose this pattern as it has both adult and child sizes and I knew my daughter would love new apron as well.
I’m first going to talk a bit about sewing up the apron, then below I have a kids oven mitt free pattern for you to sew up as well if you want. You can use the free template that I have provided or make your own by tracing a hand… I’ll give you the details for both options.
My favorite parts of these aprons.. the full skirt {looks so pretty}, the super functional pockets and the bow in back {lovely!} Of course the gorgeous fabric makes both aprons look beautiful and I love that they are usable as well.
The girls apron pattern was actually for a bit older girls, but I just shortened the pattern and made the skirt more full. I also shortened the waistband and then just gathered the skirt a bit more to fit.
I can’t tell you how much I adore this wide ric rac… seriously, could it be any cuter?? It matches the fabric I bought for the apron perfectly as well. It seriously makes the apron have a special flare.
So you can make the aprons with McCalls Pattern 7448 and the gorgeous line of spring apparel fabric at Hobby Lobby.
You can also use the fabric for other fun projects such as this kids oven mitt free pattern….. which I will now show you how to make. You can print my template for a size small here {fits about 3-5 years old} OR trace a hand like this, Be generous with your outline to give space.
Cut out two of main fabric and two of lining fabric. You should cut a left and right of each fabric.
Sew with right sides together to create two mitts. Use a 3/8″ {1cm} seam allowance.
Clip the curved edges of both mitts to give a smoother edge when turned out.
Leaving the lining mitt inside out and turn the main fabric mitt out.
Stick the lining mitt inside the main mitt. The wrong sides of the fabric will be together.
Zig-zag or serge the the bottom raw edge of the mitt. Sew both layers of fabric together when you sew.
Turn the edge over 1/4″ and then 1/4″ again and stitch. This will finish the bottom of the mitt. Now you have a fun play oven mitt that you child can use for endless hours of imaginary fun. **Note: this oven mitt is not lined to actually protect again heat. It is just for play **
You can use the weekly %40 off coupon at Hobby Lobby to get great deals on fabric and patterns to make your own adorable projects. Check out my other Sewing Tutorials for more fun projects.
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hobby Lobby. The opinions and text are all mine.
