I’ve made a ton of Pjs over the years. I’ve even developed my own sewing patterns for pjs… BUT, if I want to make a bunch of Pjs fast I always go to the Alex and Anna Pj Pattern by Peek a Boo patterns. I recently made 4 complete sets in an afternoon. So great! I’ve decided that patterns truly is my favorite PJ pattern for kids… and I’ll tell you why {ha!}
Looking for tips on sewing with knits? Check out my new video to help you create perfect hems and necklines.
You can find the Alex and Anna Pjs if you Click here. I have both the summer and winter ones, although you could easily just shorten the winter ones yourself… I print out the pattern then just trace the sizes. From trace to finish is probably close to 40 min a set since I am so familiar with this pattern. Some of the easy features I like.. the neck binding is not sewn in the round… {I know this is a less professional finish, but it’s so easy and fast}, the pants also don’t have an elastic casing, you just sew and fold.. so quick! I made these two cuties each two sets of summer Pjs as the weather warms up here.
Another reason I like Peek a Boo patterns is that my kids RTW size and the pattern size have always been a perfect match.. So here is a tiny 2T and a 7… The pattern only goes until 8, so I may be doing some enlarging in the future!
I often use old t-shirts of my husbands when I sew PJs, but this year both kids got new fabric..
And of course the awesome “sleeping” photo…
Max didn’t get new Pjs this year, but we pulled out the hand-me-downs and he is sporting these fun robot Pjs this summer. This one has a free tank pattern included.
Here are several other pj tutuorials I’ve shared over the years. Good Knight Pjs {with free Silhouette File.}, Super Simple Pjs Sets, Turn Daddy’s Tee into Pjs tutorial, One Hour Pjs with free pattern, make your own striped fabric and free tank pattern.

I, too, love the Alex and Anna. She has updated them to go to a size 12. If you have proof of purchase, she may send you an updated copy.

Well, I just realized that I am talking about the winter version. Not sure if the summer version has an update?

Where do you get your children’s knit fabrics, when not reusing or upcycling t shirts.
I have found a store that sells men’s 4x t shirts for $5. That is much less than I would pay at the fabric store. Not only that but the colors and designs are more interesting.
But I have not found many stores with knit fabric at less than $10 or more a yard. I personally dislike the Etsy way of listing fabric prices. I must shop for price and when fabric is shown sometimes in 1/4 yard prices and other times in 1/2 yard and 1 yard prices there is no way to compare.
