This is another internet inspired project. I’ve been searching for the right fabric to make it happen. I already knew I could use my free sling bag pattern for the bag, but finding the fabric was a bit trickier. After completing this project I’m very pleased with how the bag turned out and I hope you will be inspired to sew something similar {or the same!}

Puffy quilted sling bag
First up- let’s look at my inspiration for this project. You may have noticed a lot of bags, zip pouches and totes being sewn from puffy quilted fabric… I know I have. Here are a couple of bags I’ve seen online that I used for my project inspo.
I knew right away what pattern I would use, but it took a bit more time to find some fabric. It’s not quite as puffy as my inspo photos, but it works ok. If you find any other good options for fun fabric like this, please let me know!
Ok! Here’s my fun puffy quilted fabric sling bag from a free sewing pattern.
I originally ordered the pink fabric like this from the link below… but after a month and it didn’t come – Amazon refunded my money. For the second attempt I went with the black, I think it’s more versatile, but less summery. You can add an outside pocket as well {the pattern includes one} but for this first attempt I didn’t add that option. It does have a inside pocket zipper pocket though.
The one yard I ordered is enough to make a second bag as I decide what I want to add. I’m sure this wont be the last puffy quilted bag I sew!

Ok! So the full tutorial is linked above, you can click that to get all the instructions to put this together. You can print from my shop using the pattern link as well. Once you have those two things, you are ready to sew.
The only modification I made to this free pdf pattern was to round the corners. I ended up using the outer round edge for my line and I love the way it looks. You can use the original squared look, or round out like I did.
Ok! Just to recap… if you want to make this purse – read the supply list above.
