inside: Turn a dress into a beautiful reversible dress with two wearable sides each with a different look. Get more wear from your girls dresses with a dress that transforms into TWO dresses with a simple flip.
Week two for Project Run and Play was the theme of transformation. I was stumped until I asked for ideas in my FB group {you ladies are awesome!!} Someone suggested a reversible dress and I knew that was what I was going to make. I ended up adding accessories for each side of the dress and here’s what I came up with.

I had these pretty floral mesh and blue double brushed poly in my stash with an idea to make Easter dresses. It ended up to be perfect for my transforming dress. Play time on one side and a party on the other! I purchased the sequin fabric and lace from Amazon.
Free Patterns Used-
Before I get to the details lets look at the base pattern. I used the sweet rose dress as the base. You can get it free in sizes 2-10 here.
Here are the basics for making it a reversible dress. The pattern is designed for woven fabrics, if you are using knit you may want to size down {I did} I made my bodice sleeveless and fully lined. THEN, I sandwiched the bottom edge of the bodice between the two skirts. I sewed both skirts on at the same time and when you flip them both down the waist line is enclosed and the dress is reversible. I also put the closure on the front.
The Play Side: A sweet simple blue dress. Snap front to help the dress go over the head, but easy to snap or unsnap. I also made a cute mini messenger bag for my daughter to carry around all her playtime treasures. She may be six, but my daughter is still no lady {haha} She wears shorts under her dresses all summer so she can play hard and still look cute.

The Party Side: All the frills! You can see in her face she LOVES this dress. From a simple play dress a simple flip will transform your dress to a look that will impress. The simple snaps now have ruffles down the sides and the skirt is three layers of double floral mesh. I sewed up some lace tights {I adapted a legging pattern}, and some lace sleeves. The lace sleeves are attached to a simple tee base and have elastic at the cuff for an extra touch. We topped off the look with a sequin purse – the kind that changes colors as it’s SO fun.

Very cute dress and accessories. Do you have a revised tutorial for the ‘flip’ sided dress? Specifically the yardage and placement for the ruffles.
