This Seashell bag sewing tutorial is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.
We spent some time in the DR with my parents this winter, and my mom had some awesome mesh seashell bags for the kids to use while we were there. I decided I could sew a seashell bag pretty easily so today I’m sharing this seashell bag sewing tutorial with you all.
Seashell bag sewing tutorial with mesh-
We love spending time outside in summer. If it has water or sand and sun we are there!! My kids have always done well in the sun, but I also want to protect their skin so we can enjoy our time outside without worry. When my oldest was little he had a strange reaction to sunscreen so we have always used natural sunscreen for the whole family. We love that AVEENO® Baby CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sunscreen Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 50 offers an effective, natural solution with 100% mineral sun blocking protection, AND it’s available at Walmart in a twin pack so you will be set for the summer. My son has never had any reactions to Zinc-Oxide UVA/UVB Mineral Protection Sunscreen and that’s because AVEENO® Baby CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sunscreen Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is gentle, hypoallergenic, and has ACTIVE NATURALS® Oat formula that soothes skin and protects from the sun. PLUS, it’s tear free and easy to apply without all that white mess. We recently took our mesh seashell bags out for a test and took our AVEENO® Baby CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sunscreen Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 50 with us. The two pack is perfect for keeping on in the van and another in my beach bag.
Summer deals you should check out for the twin pack – Ibotta offer for $5 back.
Now, let’s make a seashell collecting bag for water/beach fun all summer long. We may live near the mountains, but you know I’ll be searching out every lake in our area!! {ha!} These mesh seashell bags allow the water and small sand to fall out of the bag while keeping the shells, rocks, sea glass and other treasures safe. Plus you can see inside to check out what you’ve collected along the way. Want to make some? This seashell collecting bag can be made in around 30 min for hours and hours of fun.
Gather the supplies.
–Mesh {not too big of holes or the shell will fall through}
-a vinyl/PUL or other water resistant fabric.
Cut two pieces of mesh approx. 12 x 12″. Cut one strap 3 x 33″ and one bag top 7 x 24″. If your fabric is pattered, the design should go across the long side. 7″ is the height.
Fold the right sides of the strap piece together. Sew one short side and down the long side. Turn right side out using a turning device or knitting needle.
Place the two pieces of mesh together. Sew them together on one side.
Open up the mesh. Place on top of the vinyl. Place the vinyl right side up and then the mesh right side up as well.
Pin the edge in a couple of places, then roll up the mesh to the middle of the vinyl.
Fold up the other side of the vinyl and pin or clip all across the edge.
Sew this edge with two layers of vinyl and the mesh in the middle.
Pull out the roll of mesh from one end until the vinyl is completely turned right side out.
Trim any extra vinyl.
With right sides together, fold in half and pin the other two sides of the bag. Sew. Make sure you are using a stitch that catches the mesh well. You may need to go over it a couple of times.
Fold over the ends of the strap and sew to either side of the bag. Sew on the wrong side of the bag.
The shell collecting bag is now complete. I added a cute little seashells and sun graphic you can add if you want. You can download the seashell graphic HERE. Un-zip the file, then use the .svg or .pdf file to decorate your own shell bags. Cut from Iron on vinyl and secure to your bag.
It’s hard to see my words since the sun reflected off my glittery vinyl, but they turned out so so cute!!!
Here are a few other beachy themed projects…
