Inside: find out all the details to learn how to sew a sherpa suede jacket you will love. Fabric and pattern details for making the coziest coat you’ve ever had.
I’ve been wanting to make myself a cute sherpa jacket for a while now and when I saw this cute glitter sherpa fabric at Hobby Lobby I knew it was time. Since I made this jacket I’ve found some other options for sherpa suede fabric that are even better {more affordable} options.
All the pattern and fabric details are below so you can sew your very own cozy jacket.

In this post I’ll share the pattern and fabric information as well as some of the modifications I made.
First, let’s take a closer look at this fun jacket. This one was made from Rose Gold Sherpa Suede from Hobby Lobby and while it is a bit flashy, it’s pretty fun!
Sherpa Jacket Pattern –
Looking for great pattern to make this coat out of? Try this Jacket from Peek A Boo Patterns. I love this one because it’s easy to follow, the fit is great and it’s a unlined jacket so perfect for the sherpa fabric.
Great sherpa suede fabric options
Here’s a great selection of Sherpa Suede from ETSY. Or make a jacket from a sherpa suede blanket for fabric at a great price, this blanket looks like it would make a great jacket! Or this blanket from Amazon is a great deal too! Now I’m totally wishing I’d just gone the blanket route {haha}
The cozy sherpa collar isn’t really a change to the pattern, but I made sure that the sherpa side of the fabric was exposed on the inside of the collar.
The sleeves ended up to be long so instead of hemming I just zig zagged the raw edge and turned up for a cute cuff. You could always add a cuff with the fuzzy side out as well to get this look.
And of course I made sure that the pocket was super cozy with sherpa fabric. I really love the princess seams and the top stitching on this jacket.
Instead of hemming up the bottom of the jacket I added a narrow sherpa cuff. The zipper stops above the bottom band.
I purchased a gold jacket zipper from The Zipper Lady. It was a good price with super fast shipping. It matches perfectly and was plenty long, but I wish it was a double zipper.

What method did you use to stitch the seams to keep it from being too bulky?
Kathy Hendrickson says
hi. I am trying to sew a ultra suede/sherpa jacket for myself. I am modifying a pattern I already had. I am wondering if the sherpa lining will make the upper sleeve too bulky. Does it need to be bigger than it was for a cotton jacket?
Emily says
I used an actual jacket pattern, so mine wasn’t an issue. Will depend on the pattern you are using.
