Hi everyone! I am Elizabeth, one half of the duo of sisters’ in law who blog at Simple Simon and Company. We are two girls who married brothers and ended up with the exact same name. We are both former school teachers, each have three kids and love to sew! (Crazy coincidences, huh? Sometimes we wonder that ourselves.)
As a former elementary school teacher, books are one of my favorite things in the world…..especially children’s literature.
And one of my favorite classic children’s books is the story of….
It is the 1964 story about Dandelion, the lion and the day he got an invitation in his mailbox, which read….
But Dandelion didn’t think he looked good enough so he went to the barber shop, curled his mane, bought a new checkered jacket, hat and cane and rang the doorbell at the party.
But no one believed that the lion standing at the door was Dandelion and shut the door.
And while he paced back and forth deciding what to do next, a rainstorm came up….
and he concluded that he might try to ring the doorbell one more time.
I won’t give away the ending of the story, but I love the life-lesson that Dandelion learns about “coming as you are.”
So, I decided to re-create this classic story.
Complete with a gingham vest and a bow-tie in colors reminiscent of Dandelion’s mane.
And I hope that I am instilling that same life lesson into my that Dandelion learned….
that you are loved just the way you are!
Thanks Emily for having me here today….to celebrate all things children’s books. There really is nothing that I love better!
