Check out the Sew a Long and Giveaway while you are here.
Hi there, I’m Ajaire from Call Ajaire and if you need to know anything about my 3 year old daughter, Bean it’s that she’s obsessed with pandas. So of course the book we chose for this series is about a panda. It’s called Poppy the Panda, by Dick Gackenbach.
Bean adores this book. We’ve been getting it from the library and reading it for years now and she enjoys it every time. The basic theme is that this little girl Katie has a panda named Poppy who decides he won’t go to sleep until she finds him something special to wear like all the rest of her dolls and toys. Silliness ensues while she tries to find him something he approves of wearing.
One of the first things Katie tries on Poppy is an outfit from her doll. The doll is the one you can see in the first picture on the cover of the book. It’s a bit over the top and doesn’t even really fit Poppy so he says he feels ridiculous. I however, have been drawn to this outfit since the first time we read the story. I’ve been wanting to recreate it so this was the perfect opportunity. A big thank you goes out to Riley Blake for sponsoring the fabrics!
Ages ago, Bean asked me to make a blue ribbon for one of her pandas that is just like the ribbon Katie’s mother ultimately finds for Poppy in the story and of course I obliged. It’s a Stretchy Bow Belt that Bean can also wear so it serves multiple purposes, but it’s most often used for a Poppy ribbon. Of course for these pictures the ribbon was a must. I’d love you to come over to Call Ajaire to see more details of the outfit and find out why every time we read the story Bean does this:
love it!! Go over and check out all the other details on Call Ajaire now! More Sew Many Books next week, stay tuned.
